just your daily reminder that GO annotations are plagued with crap. I was going through some of the proteins annotated as 'Nuclear membrane' and you get GAPDH, ENO1, MX1... Don't trust these annotations. Curate them yourself, as painful as it is, it is worth it for data quality

Human PBMCs, a highly variable mixed cell population, showing every protein with less than 20% CV. They even state a median CV of 2% in human PBMCs. The result makes no biological or technical sense. So this merits another plug to my CV paper on JPR

Very proud to be part of that team - this was a really long term project with lots of amazing people!

Open #positions‼️ I am looking for: 📌2 Postdocs 📌 1 Research Assistant to join our new research group at the University of Milan. We’ll study #RSV viral replication factories and pioneer new protein degradation technologies #TPD as #antiviral strategies. If interested, drop me a message here 📩 🦠 RT

Do you like the beaches hot and your electron microscopy cold? 👇

The answer is yes! Come hear about STARLING this afternoon at the Biophysical Society IDP subgroup symposium! Thread to follow later today... www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...

I'll post more about this later. But for a long time, we've observed odd behavior of AlphaFold's ipTM in the presence of disorder and accessory domains. Looking into the math points a way to solving the problem. There are other solutions besides ours. But I think understanding the math is key.

I have two open postdoctoral researcher positions in my group. I am looking for applicants with interest and expertise in computational structural biology and research software development. These positions are part of GANANA, a collaborative European/Indian project Check www.uu.nl/en/organisat...

Happy @warscheidlab.bsky.social Team after three days training on the Thermo #Astral. Many thanks to Michal Nadler Holly for such a great course! #TeamMassSpec #proteomics #PhDlife @lakshitaaa.bsky.social @johannes-uni-wue.bsky.social @hirakdas.bsky.social

Popularity of current DIA data analysis tools (vendor-independent, based on citations of initial publication) Updated for 2024:

What explains the divergence between RNA and protein levels ? Protein degradation is a HUGE factor. It accounts for up to 50 % of protein variation across proteins & tissue types. www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1... 🧵

I'm looking for a postdoc with expertise in mass spectrometry to work with me on some exciting projects. Please share! external-careers.jobs.unsw.edu.au/cw/en/job/53...

Idk what @kathrynslilley.bsky.social did to be labelled as 'spam' by the moderators 😂 but don't let that discourage you from following her. Proteomics and mass spec people give Kathryn a warm welcome

Happy International Women & Girls in Science Day! Great to see so many women starting out in mass spectrometry careers within the group #FeMS

Calling all #TeamMassSpec experts. I’m planning to revisit the classic SCX fractionation protocol but ran into a challenge - I can’t find a vendor for syringes with metal springs to make stage tips. I’d be so grateful for any suggestions or advice you might have 🙏 *attaching picture as an example

Preprint of our first research article is live! Are you curious about: How surface induced unfolding can benefit your research? Reproducibility of gas phase unfolding measurements? Rowan Matney has worked hard to answer these questions, and more! #TeamMassSpec #Preprint doi.org/10.26434/che...

#Teammassspec with an Astral, do you use file size as a QC metric and if so, how? For qTOFs I can see trends in performance. But with a trapping mechanism, I suspect AGC/maxIT leads to less ion intensity variability across samples (a good feature) however it makes file size less useful as a metric.

Can someone running XCalibur 4.5 with a Waters M-class and 96 well plates please get in contact with me? We are trying to switch to 96 well plates from 48 vial racks and are having problems. I need some guidance! #massspechelp

Less than one month until I retire from full time work. I am going to offer training and consultancy from early march 2025, so if you know of anyone who would like training on LCMS systems or consultancy on proteomics sample prep etc please mention my name.

Coming from struct. biology, I tend to focus on folded protein domains & interactions where at least one partner is such a domain. (The other might be another folded domain, a short protein motif, or another molecule like RNA). Do such interactions explain condensate formation? Often, they seem to.

Apparently many alleles encoding resistance to some antibiotics were around before clinical use of those antibiotics became widespread, they just weren't very common!

It's about time we have a conversation about the role of structured protein domains in form and function of bimolecular condensates. Proud of graduate student Nate Hess for taking the lead on synthesizing these ideas and identifying important gaps in the field!! www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...
