🚨 Large polluters are still poisoning our air while @govkathyhochul.bsky.social delays action. www.nyforcleanair.com is demanding bold leadershipβ€”it's time to release the cap-and-invest rules and start cutting pollution! #CleanAirNY #CapAndInvestNow

Can confirm these terminations went out today: apnews.com/article/trum...

To the anonymous hero out there who sent us the feeder tray of an HP D9P29A LaserJet pro printer as a baby gift: thanks?

Our PIs finally took a break from working towards clean air to update our website! aqtoolbox.org πŸŒ‡πŸŒπŸ˜Ž

Congestion pricing was a success. This is a joke.

Update: real time aerosol chemical composition data is flowing! @lamontearth.bsky.social @columbiaclimate.bsky.social

Decided to start stockpiling these...

Somewhere in the U.S., there’s a scientist staring at their NSF/NIH grant application wondering why they bother. This post is for you. Science and society both need you. Hang in there and know there is a whole community supporting you.

And we're back! For now www.bloomberg.com/news/article...

This accompanies the panicked calls I've been getting from my DOS program managers today about funding requests. We have been funded by DOS to work on international air pollution issues (which of course does not know political boundaries).

Introducing NBO-Chem, the Nairobi Aerosol Chemistry and Environmental Monitoring field campaign. Urban field intensive atmospheric chemical measurements of gaseous and aerosol species coming soon! aerosol.ldeo.columbia.edu/content/nbo-...

An interactive map from @ncdp.bsky.social compiles data from official sources (FEMA, CAL FIRE, NOAA, NASA, EPA, ESRI, more) to track California wildfire perimeters, air quality, evacuation orders/shelters, damage assessments, disaster recovery centers, demographics/social vulnerability, and more.

As California battles wildfires, Climate School experts like @lamontearth.bsky.social's Mingfang Ting, @dwesty.bsky.social, @jatanbuch.bsky.social and @ncdp.bsky.social's Jeff Schlegelmilch & Jonathan Sury are helping to make sense of how they became so destructive, and what's needed for recovery.

The immediate loss of life and property is of course the main concern right now. But when the smoke clears, the risk does not end, unfortunately. If you have access to N95 masks and indoor air filters, now is the time to use them to reduce exposure to toxic air.

Large wildfires can spread smoke hundreds of miles, affecting the atmosphere for millions of people and triggering air quality warnings. @lamontearth.bsky.social climate scientist @dwesty.bsky.social and UMass Amherst's Richard Peltier provide guidance to protect yourself. Via @cnet.com.

Our policy bulletin on US/Indo-Pacific collaboration on creating indoor air quality regulations is finally out! South Korea πŸ‡°πŸ‡· is one of the only countries to legislate indoor AQ. Indoor AQ concerns will πŸ“ˆπŸ“ˆ as the Korean/Japanese πŸ‡―πŸ‡΅ population pyramids inch up. www.eastwestcenter.org/publications...

Checked the ole inbox for the first time in awhile today and yep... #replyall

Does the Nosferatu + Bob Dylan biopic Christmas day double feature have a cool name yet? Bobsferatu? Whatever it is I'm there

Great to see this work from our group getting attention! Nice work Sophia.

Thanks for the feature! #AGU24

About to close down #AGU24 with a presentation "High Spatiotemporal Resolution Estimates of PM2.5 in West Africa Using Well-Calibrated Air sensors, Satellite Data, and Machine Learning". Should be a great session with presentations from @dgoldbergaq.bsky.social, Xiaomeng Jin, Sarath Guttikunda,

Check out the Westervelt group #AGU24 presentations here: drive.google.com/file/d/1tlBy... Topics ranging from O3 in India, satellite data and air sensors in Africa, and modeling of aerosol-induced Arctic amplification! See you in DC at #AGU24

Woohoo we're on bluesky!

We're verified now! πŸ’…

Had a really great visit yesterday to Johns Hopkins University where I delivered the Wolman Seminar in environmental engineering. And of course an excellent visit with Pete DeCarlo's lab including his fantastic new mobile air chemistry lab publichealth.jhu.edu/departments/...

A student working with me requested an account to access USEPA's vast air quality database. He was denied, due to not being a member of a federal, state, or tribal air agency. This is despite half of my group having an account, and the website stating that researchers are eligible for accounts.

@lamontearth.bsky.social and @columbiaclimate.bsky.social are on bluesky now! I guess this place is getting real!

We had a pretty memorable #LDEO #Columbia Colloquium presentation today from Dr. David Valentine, who discovered half a million barrels of DDT and radioactive waste dumped off the coast of southern California. New documentary on this is out: www.outofplainsight.com
