Firing all of the JAGs (Judge Advocates General)—the top lawyers in each service branch—is just as bad as, if not worse than, firing (most of) the Joint Chiefs.

We finally have an actual 1A question about social media and I’m wondering where the Twitter Files dupes are?

Once upon a time, these were actions by a private company. Now they are actions being undertaken by a high-ranking government official, in connection with his public activities. This raises 1A issues that didn’t exist before.

Extraordinary story the Wall Street Journal. X is threatening advertisers that if they don’t spend more, Elon Musk will use his influence in government to block company mergers. That’s extortion.

"We are in the midst of a global fight between Western liberal democracy and authoritarian government, and in this fight, the United States has just switched sides and signed up with the authoritarian camp." - Francis Fukuyama www.persuasion.community/p/the-ultima...

This is absurd. We built this database to stop officers who commit misconduct at one police agency from being rehired at another. It's about transparency and safety -- it helps the hiring agencies and the public. With due process protections. Trump shut it down

39% of the detainees disappeared to the Guantanamo offshore prison were deemed "low threat" by the Trump administration. Some of the individuals being detained at Guantanamo did not cross illegally, legally requesting asylum at a port of entry.

US Supreme Court rules 6-3 that poisoning your rival is an official act.

Wrote about how easy it is to claim you saved taxpayers billions when you just make shit up. But also how this is the Twitter Files all over again. The dumbest people don't know what they're looking at so it must be a conspiracy www.techdirt.com/2025/02/19/i...

“put it on his fucking gravestone”

At 15:15 in the video here, President Trump says he's heard President Zelensky had admitted "he didn't know where half the money [US Aid to Ukraine] is." Via Politifact, it's another conspiracy theory pushed by Elon Musk. www.politifact.com/factchecks/2... www.c-span.org/program/whit...

All of these dumb fucks need to be primaried. They're literally trying to give Trump and his cronies a new tool to crush us just to spite big tech companies (who don't mind b/c it'll crush their competitors harder and they have Dear Leader paid up to save them is things go wrong).

Good men & women in EUCOM are—as they've done every month since Feb 2022—actively helping track & repel this aerial assault. Meanwhile their commander-in-chief at home is actively attacking Ukraine's president, while handing concession after concession to the state firing the missiles.

Incredible stuff in here: They ID'ed him, in part, by going to court hearings and watching him post

REVEALED: we identified the operator of an overtly racist X account, "GlomarResponder," as ICE Assistant Chief Counsel James Rodden, based on an overwhelming number of biographical details matched through publicly available documents, other social media activity, and courtroom observation.

@mitchellepner.bsky.social curious - as a NY practitioner have you written anything about the possibility of charging Eric Adams with state crimes?

New from 404 Media: a Musk ally has demanded administrative access to Notify.gov, a system that lets the government text the public. The access would give them large swathes of the publics' personal data too. A worker has resigned in protest rather than give access www.404media.co/musk-ally-de...

25-year-old Marko Elez has been reinstated in the Trump administration and given an EOP email address, per source, as Musk had said would happen Elez left Treasury after the WSJ reported that he had tweeted last year: "Just for the record, I was racist before it was cool"

USDA says it accidentally fired officials working on bird flu and is trying to rehire them In a statement, an Agriculture Department spokesperson told NBC News that officials are "working to swiftly rectify the situation." www.nbcnews.com/politics/dog...

"Republican Sens. Lisa Murkowski (Alaska), Dan Sullivan (Alaska), Jim Moran (Kansas) and Steve Daines (Mont.) were all co-sponsors of this law. None responded to requests for comment."

Bright passionate people who wanted to dedicate their lives to public service were fired in a mass email over the holiday weekend. This has absolutely nothing to do with efficiency, fraud, waste, or abuse. And your life will be worse because of it.

A few further thoughts on DOGE accessing the IDRS database at the IRS: I led the Treasury Office of Tax Policy and have spoken to a number of former career and political appointees at Treasury and IRS. None can recall a political appointee ever having access to this database. 1/5

The Times spoke to people being trapped inside a Panama hotel after deportation from the US and the individual stories of horror are almost too much to bear www.nytimes.com/2025/02/18/w...

People tend to forget that news organizations are robustly protected by the First Amendment not because of their journalism but because of … an ad The New York Times decided to run. This repudiates that. www.nytimes.com/2023/03/19/i...

Musk & Trump fired a disabled Army vet, Luke Graziani, who is a father of four, working at the Bronx Veterans Affairs hospital. "[Writing to the VA secretary], he asked for his job back: 'This can’t be how my service to my country ends.' As of Monday, Collins had not replied."

genuinely don't get why anyone who is not subscribed to musk's political project is throwing content up there. this & all other evidence dismantles the argument that one needs to 'stay and fight' the war of ideas (lol) on a platform that is making it clear as day it will not give you a fair fight

I look forward to JD Vance's statement denouncing this European attack on free speech.

This is a concerning milestone. Bringing new investigations and prosecutions is different than just dismissing cases against allies.

Just to be clear, because I don’t think the Post story highlights it enough: This was Trump’s day-one pick to lead the Social Security Admin until his nominee got confirmed who RESIGNED a career job rather than do what Musk’s DOGE team wants. This is Treasury (DOGE) and DOJ (Adams) all over again.

When you dump an entire agency into a "wood chipper" — as Musk boastfully did two weeks ago (see his tweet at x.com/elonmusk/sta...) — this is the kind of tragedy that can result. Many more tragedies will come to light. This is the core and legacy of the Trump-Musk administration: pure destruction.

Want to go visit the national parks this year? Sorry. The reservation system is shut down, EMT personnel are gone, so don't get hurt or lost. No one can clean the bathrooms or cabins, so they'll be closed. Rangers are fired. www.sfchronicle.com/bayarea/arti...

Make America Grift Again

There is no fucking reason at all for Musk to have access to personal financial data.

"We are exploring a self-paid medical evatuation flight with NICU capaibility... We do not have medical evacuation insurance because medical evacuation was a condition of my employment with the United States Government." ...

new from me: Elon Musk's X appears to be blocking links to directly contact users on Signal Signal, the encrypted messaging app, has recently become a major tool for government workers looking to blow the whistle on DOGE

"One FAA employee who was fired over the weekend suggested he was targeted for his views on Tesla and X..'The official DOGE Facebook page started harassing me on my personal Facebook account..Less than a week later I was fired, despite my position allegedly being exempted due to national security.'"

The JD Vance team flagged my TikToks for impersonation and had my account banned for making fun of him in a doughnut shop.

If you wanted to cut waste, fraud, and abuse, you would empower the inspectors general. If you wanted more waste, fraud, and abuse, you would fire them.

The Washington Post refused to run this ad. Sure would be a shame if it went viral.

A good general epistemic rule of thumb: If you have spent a few hours or weeks studying an area large numbers of smart, educated people have worked in for decades, and you believe you have discoverer an earthshattering truth they all missed, your default should be to regard this as VERY unlikely.

The Trump administration has begun firing several hundred Federal Aviation Administration employees, upending staff on a busy air travel weekend and just weeks after a January fatal mid-air collision at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport.

The uncertainty caused by Trump’s funding and hiring freezes has limited training, postponed work to reduce flammable vegetation in areas vulnerable to wildfire and left some firefighters with little choice but to leave the force.

For those keeping track, @nytimes.com ran the story today on the bottom of page A22.
