I've worked w/veterans with ADHD who liked the military because it was so structured. But it's not a good match for everyone. Learn more from @emilykm-lpc.bsky.social.

Important correction: this suicide hotline is specifically for trans/NB people to speak to a trans/NB hotline worker. It’s also the Canadian number. The US number they offer is 1-877-565-8860. And it is, again, not a general suicide hotline.

I hear people saying all sorts of incorrect things about what happens with IEPs and 504 plans when students transition to college. Get the facts: https://bit.ly/ECHFAQ1 #CollegePrep #IEP #CollegeTransition #Dyslexia  #ADHD  #LearningDisabilities #2e #IEP #504Plan #SpecialEducation #EduSky

If deporting US citizen children with cancer isn’t your redline, it’s time to reassess your priorities.

Reading expert Timothy Shanahan reviews the research on special fonts that claim to help students with #Dyslexia. Before your student asks for this as an accommodation, get the facts.

Man, this is a pretty fucking gross move from Amazon, huh? Good on @bookshop.org for not mincing words, though:

I was surprised when someone asked me this question. Find out why! https://bit.ly/ECHFAQ10 #CollegeAdmissionMyths #SpecialEducationTips #LearningDisabilities #Dyslexia #ADHD

The college environment provides no structure and places numerous demands on students. This story from writer Rae Jacobson about her college journey has a happy ending; concerned parents may recognize some of the warning signs here in their own student. https://bit.ly/LDblog116x

I was delighted to invite my colleagues Jane Thierfeld Brown and Lorre Wolf to join Vicki Nelson and me on the College Parent Central podcast in anticipation of the upcoming release of their new edition, Neurodiversity and College: The Parent’s Guide for Autistic Students.  https://bit.ly/CPCAAC

Talked to a friend (who's parent of a college-bound student) about how to find the disability documentation requirements at the college they'll attend in the fall. Do this *before* they graduate from high school so they can reach any school personnel they need to before the summer.

This is terrible. ERIC provides access to important information.

Raise your hand if you saw this and thought, 🎶"Oh, I swear..."🎶

College places new, increased demands on all students, but if they are strategic, they can do well. In this post he wrote for my blog, Jake Weld of Mansfield Hall discusses the three skills he finds are crucial to college success. https://bit.ly/LDBlog128x

As Step 3 of my book explains, students need not just academic ability to be successful at college but also non-academic skills like self-advocacy. Cindy Goldrich explainshow parents can help students develop this crucial skill:

For many college students with disabilities (and without!), time management is a challenge. I wrote this for @Understood to give students some strategies for staying on top of things. See my tips: http://bit.ly/UndTimeMan #TimeManagement #CollegeSuccess #ADHD #Dyslexia #CollegeReadiness #EduSky

A lot of folks don't know what accommodations students with disabilities might expect to receive in college. Too many make assumptions about this. In this post, college DS directors shed some light on what they approve or don't, what they do when they say no, and more.  https://bit.ly/LDBlog112x

Here's Mio - convinced she can transport herself through the wall and out of the vet's office. (Not pictured - the poor vet sitting on the floor.)

As a fan of Ned Johnson's, I was delighted to talk to him about preparing students with disabilities for college. I shared: • what many folks don't know about how the college disability services system works • what FERPA means for communications to parents between college staff and parents ...and
