Global, land, and ocean temperature change distributions since the 1880s. A very clear warming signal in all of them. Data: NASA GISS / GISTEMP (base period: 1951–1980). #climate #ClimateChange #GlobalWarming #DataVisualization #dataviz 🌍🌡️📈

And now we're in a world that is removing fact checking along with government science funding and government data...

Earth’s hottest periods occurred before humans existed. Those ancient climates would have been like nothing our species has ever seen. From a molten infancy to sweltering prehistoric climates, explore the planet's hottest eras here: www.climate.gov/news-feature...

Medicaid is not for sale. NASA is not for sale. The Post Office is not for sale. America is not for sale. We have an obligation to resist kings. We outnumber them. And they can be overwhelmed.

I wonder how big tech plans to reach it's carbon neutrality goals without offshore wind and other renewable energy solutions.

Direct boycotts of Tesla seem to be effective after all. I was skeptical. heatmap.news/politics/mus...

And about that letter, as an Asian American, not in my name. F-that.

Am quietly seething over the "dear colleague" letter, the misinformation, the lies and the total disregard for the rule of law. Just another day in 2025. We need a whole new system for how to get resources in the hands of the people who need them - we stand to lose another generation in education.

@ecology101.bsky.social As expected job cuts at America's National Parks will likely make our parks and forest more dangerous: www.nytimes.com/2025/02/18/c... . Should we expect an increase in hostile human/environmental relationships along with corresponding decrease in environmental support? Sad.

so here we are. I wrote this when RFK Jr's presidential campaign was being laughed off by the self-styled serious people. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

Cough. The thing about going after boycotting Tesla is that Tesla's target US audience lines up pretty well already with the base that's put Elon Mush next Trump. But maybe we can persuade other companies not to do business with them.

Heartbreaking: The Worst Person You Know Just Made A Great Point

Keep on keeping on

this is good

I'm trying to figure out what the solutions journalism approach might be for social media (nationalpress.org/topic/soluti...). What can we tell folks to give you something productive to do. It's a snow day. Here in Salem, please write to the newspaper in support of the library & parks levy.

Lee Zeldin will try just about anything won't he. Seriously - revoking already awarded funding for climate projects? Good luck. I guess we will see just how badly the courts got stacked the last time around. Federal judicial appointments for the next four year years really scare me.

Does anyone know if the wayback machine is helpful for retrieving government websites? web.archive.org

Hopefully this is the answer?

I know some folks were protecting environment and climate data. Who had their eyes on everything else? www.nytimes.com/2025/02/02/u...

Some of the big grants that came out of EPA that are "DEI" are the community change grants, which included funds for communities in Louisiana and Texas. www.nytimes.com/2025/02/01/c...

This color-blind approach is exactly what keeps society from learning more about one another. It engenders fear and mistrust and only serves to maintain the status quo. Instead, people will spread fake news, whisper behind your back and point. #omlb

"Everyone thinks of solar like the Whole Foods of energy - better for you, but pricey. In fact, it's now the Costco of energy, and everyone needs to know that." - yet another unforgettable thought from @billmckibben.bsky.social

Is anyone investigating who is buying these stock market dips following various sudden public decrees and reversals?

The last 12 days have been .... I am not surprised, but somehow still shocked. On the plus side, my office hasn't been this clean in months.

For people asking what’s wrong with substack

A few things come to mind from today's headlines regarding grants and federal employee buyouts seeming to be a reversal of the previous days. 1) Our government is interested in creating fear, chaos and confusion. 2) Public outcry might be working.

Meanwhile... www.eenews.net/articles/cou...

This is a weird affirmation in that it reflects my overall state of mind.

I'm putting out this call again for a climate anthem from @ayanaeliza.bsky.social 's podcast how to save a planet. I feel like we need one now more than ever. #climateanthem Really any kind of protest music for now will do.

This by Dan Savage is I think important to keep top of mind. It speaks to the point I made earlier that bad news is never the only news.

If we were in South Korea, we'd be in the streets by now grabbing this thing by the barrel and chanting protest songs to k-pop.

Trying to dream up more ways we can resist? Here are some practical ideas. I'm open to more.

I've seen a lot of new websites pop up saving the environmental & climate science data and tools we need on other websites. Does anyone have any resources for the DEIJA information that's being removed also?

This is becoming absurd—federal employees are now being told to remove pronouns from their email signatures. We will always stand by our commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, no matter how many things we’re asked to delete or change. Inclusivity is at the core of who we are.

If you are a federal employee, it is advised to set your social media accounts to private to prevent outside viewership, as reports suggest that loyalty screenings have begun.

In case your next grant, plan or just your life depends on an EJ screening tool. Thanks to all the folks, like those behind the Public Environmental Data project (screening-tools.com) and the team at Urban Ocean Lab (www.urbanoceanlab.org/resource-hub) out there preserving federal tools.

UC San Diego today. My class on the Climate Crisis was due to meet. It's bone dry, high winds. The campus power plant keeps burning fossil gas.

If only people could get off natural gas as fast as they are fleeing Meta.

I'm looking for ways to fund climate justice education for educators in higher education outside federal sources.

Did anyone else think they'd still be listening to #americanidiot in 2025? What other music do we need right now?

I feel like the current administration's current actions are proof that some of us were making a difference. I'm also of the belief that an ecological crisis continues to pose a deep threat to democracy, particularly as its subconscious for most people.
