not the main issue here but i'd really appreciate it if democratic politicians spoke out in support of big-city life and culture with the same energy and reverence that all politicians have for small towns los angeles is "real america" and so are all the other big cities the president hates

If you live in LA and you need a reminder of why voting matters Just imagine if Robert Luna wasn’t our sheriff, and instead alex villanueva had won another term Most people probably don’t think of the importance of voting for sheriff on their ballot, but you are seeing it right now

"It's really hard to fathom that the guy making my pizza for 25 years is a gangster and a terrorist, and the person who shows up in an unmarked car wearing a mask and body armor comes to take him away is somehow the good guy” www.wnep.com/article/news...

The boy has redeemed himself

Having kids is awesome. How else could I look forward to a little ice cream sandwhich treat all day, only to discover they have all been eaten

“You’re trying really hard to not miss out on your child’s life, and to be there for them and with them, and be present, but your mind is always on school or work, or on what you need to get done every single day and trying to keep up on household stuff like the dishes and laundry.”

Two big takeaways from my new piece today. One, the Trump administration is trying to strong-arm an accreditor into doing its political bidding. Two, Columbia’s accredition isn’t in real jeopardy if the proper processes are followed. www.newamerica.org/education-po...

ICYMI: The budget bill recently passed by a razor-thin House Republican majority would slash safety net programs and federal #StudentAid. 🚨 Here, our #HigherEd experts @ewaspeaks.bsky.social and @richardodavisjr.bsky.social explain how these alarming cuts will hit parenting students hardest.

A fascinating position coming from someone with a doctorate

Chatted to @byjoshmoody.bsky.social this morning about UNC and Florida trying to set up a new accreditor. Seems like this is driven by ideology more than by making sure students get a high-quality education. www.insidehighered.com/news/governa...

I'm glad to hear @tressiemcphd.bsky.social use that microphone because I've been screaming into the void about this for years. People are so shitty to customer service folks bc they've never been on the other side of the phone/counter/clothes rack, etc. Bring back empathy.

Mmmmm hmmmmm. I had a lot of customer service jobs before going to grad school, and I always thought the world would be a better place if everyone had to spend 6 months in retail and 6 months waiting tables. People who haven't had the experience need to learn.

Society shouldn't be structured in a way that encourages this stratification where some can buy better experiences in the first place. For example, if everyone had to use the same health system, rich or poor, it would be better. When you can just buy better care, there's no incentive to improve...

Give her all the microphones 👑

I’ve lived here 15 years, and folks at home always ask if I like living here, and I say yes, but only because I’m fortunate to be fairly well off. If I wasn’t, I’d have moved back years ago. “Some people’s world actually works” @tressiemcphd.bsky.social preaching on ways to close empathy gaps.

Twitter: this is how men with huge balls fight. This is what masculinity looks like Bluesky: this is the first messy breakup of pride month

Did you really live as an 80s baby if you didn't explore an abandoned house or three?

The Trump-Musk relationship lasted just slightly longer than it takes a new cyber truck to break

Couldn’t happen to two nicer people

nah think i will continue to do my writing and thinking in-house and not atrophy my brain to send faster emails

I need one of these

Seems likely that DOJ and Texas colluded on this. This will do untold harm to 20,000 students who just want to get an education www.texastribune.org/2025/06/04/t...

This is simultaneously so stupid and highly consequential. ED is setting up structures to strip federal financial aid eligibility from students at colleges it doesn’t like. www.reuters.com/world/us/us-...

Apropos of nothing, but here's my story from October on accreditation. www.insidehighered.com/news/governm...

You cannot come far enough right for these people. Maybe at some point folks will learn that and stop trying to appease them. www.insidehighered.com/news/governa...

The way people are talking about the current demolition of research funding and HE legitimacy reminds me of the early days of COVID when I (and others) said it would be at least six years before any normalcy. Rage, despondency, rejection…eventually voting for a dictator just to feel alive.

BREAKING: Federal judge orders that hormone therapy and social accommodations be maintained for transgender people in federal prisons, blocking Trump admin policies. Judge Royce Lamberth, a Reagan appointee, granted class certification and prelim. injunction in a lawsuit challenging the policies.

I came to a sudden arboreal stop while mountain biking this weekend. Would not recommend. Some very colourful bruising and banged up ribs to go with the broken finger

this is so cool

Will there be an email alert or push notice when all the winning starts? I’d hate to miss it.

one last post on international students -- public opinion is not in the administration's favor on this, and universities should not let them forget it

I’d like to think that if Biden had been cloned he would have had a better first debate performance
