Real risk now is that rather than looking at these results, including losing Runcorn a previously "safe seat", Labour will shift even further to the right with attacks on marginalised groups, thereby embedding Reform's narrative and giving them free publicity to dictate policy and grow more #r4today

Overall it seems like the majority of Reform votes are coming from ex-Tory voters, so can't wait for Labour to interpret that as a sign to continue to enact Reform's policies.

The FA banned ALL women from playing for 50 years. Why? Because, even after the men returned from war, women's football continued to be ridiculously popular. Thats it. That was the reason.

Absolutely insane. Uneblieveable. "Sex Matters", one of the hate groups responsible for removing trans people's rights via the Supreme Court are arguing that trans people shouldn't be allowed to transition because they don't have rights and not having rights is bad. Fucking hell

Anyone know of any blog sites that might be interested in a piece on the distinction between "human rights as legal framework" and "human rights as moral framework" and thus why Kier Starmer's stance on trans rights in not surprising?

I used to delay getting mine until in a routine appointment for something else the nurse realised I hadn't had mine and instructed me to sit still while she went to get one and did it on the spot. Having had someone be, "no, this matters", shifted how I thought about getting it.

Here's the thing I have to stress about this letter: their argument is literally that "the UK Supreme Court Judgement has made life untenable for trans individuals, therefore it's unethical to let children transition if they'll be discriminated against by the policies we pushed for."

So basically just sort of banning people who enjoy a sport for fun really?

Thank you to everyone who danced the sun up this morning, it's looking lovely. If you couldn't help dance the sun up, you can always still go and vote for a country that's slightly better for everyone.

Unacceptable to question a judgment? Well, legal academia is doomed.

The U.K.’s first transgender judge, Dr Victoria McCloud, has announced plans to take the government to the European Court of Human Rights over the Supreme Court gender ruling

Reposted with alt text. Of course, what do *checks notes* Doctors know about human biology?

Sometimes the world is awful and all you can do is spend your afternoon painting overly elaborate protest signs.

Subtweeting the EHRC.

We’re looking forward to coming together this Sunday, the 27th April, for the second gathering of Open Space. Our theme will be ‘Resurrection’. Join us at St Mary and St John, Cowley at 6pm for some good food, and 7:15pm for queer theology, prayer, and reflective space - all very welcome.

All these politicians sure are confusing "legally right" with "morally right" aren't they. (not the only criticism, but somewhat problematic as a stance from the people in charge of improving our nations laws)

"Every border implies the violence of its maintenance. Violence comes in many kinds."

let’s be clear that personalisation amounts to determining a person’s future based on recurring patterns of the past. if you belong to a groups that society has not been kind to in the past (black & brown, LGBTQI, poor, disabled, etc), AI personalisation ensures your future encodes past injustice

Here's my brief explainer on contacting or meeting your MP. docs.google.com/document/d/e...

Repeat: If you’re worried your employer might discriminate against you because you are trans and need to pee, the best thing you can do right now is join a union.

This added a pleasing moment of levity to this morning.

This statement about the transphobic Supreme Court ruling by the UK's Crab Museum (yes a museum about crabs) is better than 99% of the statements I've seen on the topic www.crabmuseum.org/visit 🦀🦀🦀🦀🦀🦀🦀🦀

Seems prudent to repost this. If you think it applies to you, get it done. And if you're in Scotland, changing your Community Health Index (CHI) number is straightforward. SNP are caving in to transphobia too. Look out for yourself. 💜🏳️‍⚧️

Respectfully then, why do you still associate with the Labour party when they have been proven to be institutionally transphobic?

More news! Rob is offering up 3 signed copies of Terry Pratchett: A Life with Footnotes (the official biography of my dad) for the Genre Creators for Trans Rights in the U.K. and SA auction www.32auctions.com/organization...

Trans women are routinely denied healthcare, safe housing and dignity. This isn’t an accident. It is hate, fuelled by those in power. Trans rights are human rights — and I will always stand with the trans community.

This is simultaneously utterly deplorable in that it will rule up xenophobia and utterly moronic in that the only party who will benefit from this kind of pathetic playground politics are bad actors like Reform.

Current legal musing following the UKSC: does the redefinition of sex as "biological" mean that the Church of England will now be required to provide for weddings between, say, a trans man and a cis man, or a trans woman and a cis woman?

I am begging anyone with the ability to commission articles in my industry: let trans people write about what is happening to us right now.

I wonder how many other human rights former human rights lawyer Keir Starmer is excited about demolishing

In what I fear will become a daily reminder: Just because you *can* now discriminate on the basis of biological sex in single-sex spaces, doesn't mean you *have* to.

Sign.

Numbers Labour could publish on foreign born people instead of criminal history: 😀Windrush without compensation 😀People who have experienced hate crime 😀Stats on NRPF that they refuse to publish 😀Stats on race/ethnicity that they refuse to publish 😀Visas denied due to racist decision making

The court judgment only focused on the rights of trans people who hold GRCs. This is a massive step beyond that - this is a Labour Government introducing a Bathroom Bill by the back door. Which would make the current Labour government worse on LGBTQIA+ rights than any this millennium:

My gender recognition certificate application was delayed because the panel wanted confirmation that I'd been using the ladies toilets for two years. You'd think the equalities minister would be familiar with the GRA and the GRC process.

Pope Francis’s "Urbi et Orbi" Easter speech: “How much contempt is stirred up at times towards the vulnerable, the marginalized and migrants...I appeal to all those in positions of political responsibility in our world not to yield to the logic of fear which only leads to isolation from others.”

This is one of my favourite things about Arabic.

it has never been more crucial for cis lesbians to be loud in support of our trans family. this is a chilling escalation of longtime tactics; attempts at a “feminist” case for transphobia ALWAYS include a disingenuous “nooooo won’t someone think of the poor lil lesbians 🥺🥺🥺” and it is such bullshit

See you there Oxford people?

On trans rights and the Supreme Court on BBC Any Questions… My feminism includes trans women and I am so disapponted at the court and worried what’s next. There is work to do and (like the audience) give my solidarity to trans people, and commit to working with you to fix this.

The harassment of gender nonconforming women is a feature, not a bug, of anti-gender ideology. The plan was always to force us to conform to heteronormative patriarchy
