Never forget

Haven't seen Megalopolis and don't particularly care to, but this is pretty boss

It's not conspiracy-minded to believe this. A good percentage of these people are doing just this, and these political battles are literally life or death in their mind. It will likely be too late by the time the general public realizes the stakes are indeed this high

Every single philanthropic institution needs to do this rather than retracting right now. abcnews-go-com.cdn.ampproject.org/c/s/abcnews....

Had a dream that Gary Busey played Cormac McCarthy in a film loosely based on The Orchard Keeper, but the plot mainly revolved around a drunk Cormac unable to start his riding lawn mower and trying to hide from his wife. Busey was fabulous in the role

"Iannis Xenakis came to Indiana University in the fall of 1967 with the mission to install a computer system for making digital music without having to know how to read or write in musical notation." Indiana University’s Lost Experimental Music Project:

The headline is not hyperbole. He might be the most unprincipled person within that circus. The other guys at least seem to believe in what they're doing. They might end up making it to the 8th, but Vance is going straight to the 9th circle of hell

If anything, this book is underrated

uncut willie dunn vibes rn. "i pity the country" (1971) youtu.be/0qsZsfn6PC4?...

Went a little hard in the chat but I'll stand by it

Much respect to this great band that was country when country wasn't cool to the indie sleaze set

Something the "so you think the law means anything now" doomers fail to grasp: the importance of buying time. Nobody, and I mean NOBODY, has infinite resources and infinite capacity for managing complexity. Make your opponent work. Make their every decision complex and their every move costly.

MAYBE this could be written today but I don't think anyone could pull off the acting like Lovitz or Hartman youtu.be/JoVItVwLFzg?...

Take your well deserved rest. You've done more than enough

I think about Phil Hartman bits on SNL so often l think I might be in assisted living (if I live so long and such things still exist) talking about and doing those bits. That man made me laugh as much as anyone ever did

One of my favorite bands ever and I hope they don't reunite. They still get together and play music for themselves and don't owe anyone else anything. Of course if they did reunite I would definitely go see them

Now the whole country gets the experience of what it's like when private equity buys the place you work

Eternity's Pillar, a mid-80s tv show created by Alice Coltrane, is on @criterion.bsky.social

Whole new world for me here, can't wait to dig in

This is powerful

Don't think I've mentioned my utter contempt for Outlook adequately or frequently enough on this platform, and since work just installed a Windows update, I'll go ahead and state how much I loathe Microsoft products in general. So much time wasted figuring out their unintuitive garbage products

Do you know why a president would do all the most evil and heinous shit via Executive Order? Because his party can't easily make it law. And if they can't make it law, they can't make it last. Don't let anyone make you feel like this is The End. Do not let them demoralize you. Live to see them die.

without downloading any new pics, where are you mentally?

Everybody chiming in with strong opinions one way or another, but I'm waiting for the next Power Poll results before I determine how I should feel about all that's going on

absolutely satanic stuff right here

This may be the most remarkable remembrance so far. It goes deeper than you might guess.

Now that's a headline.

That thing that's said about being fortunate to be alive at the same time as a great artist or athlete, being privileged to watch them work in your era, I think David Lynch was the big one for so many Gen Xers

No matter how hard you tried or how many words you used, no one could ever explain why so many of Lynch's scenes, such as this one, are so powerful. Often imitated on a superficial level, no one has come close to duplicating his emotional resonance

There are almost no living stars or costars of 1940s Hollywood classics left (the only two I can think of off the top of my head are Ann Blyth and Margaret O'Brien); he was one of the last. RIP Claude Jarman, Jr. www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie...

Not sure why this recently resurfaced but I'm glad it did. It's a great story about an interesting person and time in Knoxville history. And not to be all George Jones about it but who is going to fill Bean's shoes? Absolute legend, in the parlance of our times

So much to say about A Complete Unknown but knowing Dylan completely approved it shades everything about it. Most especially the Pete Seeger character, which Ed Norton absolutely nails. Dylan clearly wanted this movie to be about Seeger as much as him, and telegraph what an amazing person Seeger was

Also looking forward to seeing A Complete Unknown. Expecting it to be entertaining especially knowing true heads know his best work lay far beyond that period youtu.be/RRbwThkhRxg?...

Regarding Nosferatu, so far I've heard: Eggers is not a good filmmaker; I had to leave half an hour into it because it was too intense; I took an edible and it was amazing; I'm glad I didn't take an edible because it would have been too intense; it was great. Looking forward to seeing and sussing it

Haven't read this yet but very much looking forward to it and following the ensuing discourse

Anyway, how about a new rare early 1974 Can clip? Uploaded a few days back, allegedly from a random eBay purchase.

Love Actually (2003) is a beloved Christmas classic but what many fans don’t realise is that the country it’s set in, “England”, wasn’t just made up for the film - it actually exists! It has a population of 69 million people and its chief export is gas turbines.

Watched Interstellar for the first time and I couldn't help but wish that Chalamet delivered the "Grandpa died last week, now he's buried in the yard" line instead of Casey Affleck, for obvious reasons
