Focus on the global climate and biodiversity crises (also the Trump crisis). We are on the brink of extinction but push ahead regardless with business as usual. You really have to wonder if we're already past the point of no return. Born 320ppm CO2.

1. European and UK ministers are still talking as if their biggest potential security problem is a withdrawal of US support. But that is not their biggest potential security problem. It’s that, under Trump, the US will back Putin not just diplomatically but also militarily. 🧵

All the instruments are flashing 🔴 We are heading for a catastrophic crash. No one is hitting the brakes It's all business-as-usual There is no urgency #ClimateCrisis #ClimateEmergency Graphic by @edhawkins.org ed-hawkins.github.io/climate-visu...

“I call it liquid gold under our feet — and we’re going to utilize it.”—Trump As this strategy drives us beyond 2°C - the devastation that this unleashes, globally, lies at the feet of all the people, voters included, who have facilitated this. We are on a highway to hell. #ClimateCrisis

"It’s beginning to look as if no one has our backs. Prepare for the worst." A must-read PSA from @georgemonbiot.bsky.social:

Watching the world collapse 🔥 New Research Led by James Hansen Documents Global Warming acceleration #me6 insideclimatenews.org/news/0402202...

V much worth reading Kevin's comments on Hamsen's climate acceleration. Words of sanity adrift in an insane world.

A good indication that capitalism is beyond f*cked up is that it's still more "profitable"* to destroy everything on Earth than to actually save it.

If Labour approves the Rosebank oil field, it would be the final straw for many of its green-minded voters. It might appease corporate power for a moment, but in doing so it will lose far more than it gains. The government seems to be on a self-destructive streak. Now's the time to rethink.

Ultra-processed food From the new Private Eye, out now.

Drax power station is by far the largest emitter of CO2 in the country, emitting more than the next 4 largest power stations combined, & a source of huge environmental destruction. It’s beyond comprehension - and reason - if Government really is considering renewing yet more taxpayer subsidies

Nothing to see here! Yes, Arctic sea ice is at an all time low for the date. And yes, it's on track for the lowest annual maximum ever, with about 4 weeks to go. But Arctic sea ice is in the Arctic. So who cares? Carry on. Love, Your friends at ExxonMobil & Chase Bank

“Scientists say the current period is likely to be the warmest the planet has been in 125,000 years.” January was 1.75C. 2C seriously threatens our ability to produce food. We’re in so much trouble, & the people governing us simply do not care. theguardian.com/environment/20…

1. We cannot now rule out the possibility of systemic collapse in the United States. If Trump and Musk paralyse the federal government, this could trigger social, financial and industrial failures. Neither Trump nor his team know how to respond to such failures, which could snowball and converge. 🧵

Pretty much nails it The Aussie nuclear power plan from the Liberal Party is about keeping fossil fuels burning for longer www.youtube.com/watch?v=JBqV...

Kemi Badenoch was pretty loose with the facts about the Rosebank oil field during #PMQs just now. Let's take a closer look shall we? 🧵

Climate change target of 2C is ‘dead’, says renowned climate scientist - Prof James Hansen says pace of global heating has been significantly underestimated, though other scientists disagree #climatecrisis Story by me www.theguardian.com/environment/...

The warmest January on record. Beating the prior record set in 2024. 1.75C above preindustrial. Unexpectedly. With no El Niño pushing temperatures higher, this means that continuing to burn fossil fuels is pushing warming totally out of control.

I know I sound like a broken record, but we are *utterly* unprepared for what is about to unfold. Climate chaos and the resulting impacts is *not* a 2100 problem. It is a NOW problem that will escalate like nothing we have experienced before in the next 15-20 years.
