Hi, Bluesky! We're a small grassroots organisation in Edinburgh, Scotland dedicated to fighting transphobia, championing trans liberation and joy and a safer future for trans youth.

The Edinburgh Festival Fringe started in 1947 as a response to the Edinburgh International Festival. It wasn't until 1974 that the Fringe got bigger. These days the EIF is soundly outnumbered and the ability to see both Bertolt Brechta and then Basil Brush in one day is rather the point.

We're currently taking applications. We've had around 300 in January. The deadline to apply isn't until April, but venues are programming now & prime slots will be booked up soon, so don't delay. More info about being part of the 2025 Camden Fringe here camdenfringe.com/take-part/

Today’s Creative Scotland announcement signals optimism for the arts in Scotland. Particularly welcome is the news that 141 organisations will receive multi-year funding for the first time, allowing even more creatives the long-terms stability needed to thrive in the industry.

Fringe Theatre - not just for Barber Shop Quartets.

“People in Scotland have a queer idea of the arts. They think you can be an artist in your spare time, though nobody expects you to be a spare-time dustman, engineer, lawyer or brain surgeon.” —Alasdair Gray, LANARK (Book I, Ch. 20: “Employers”) Not just Scotland: 👇

Good. To quote Adri Joy, "Neil Gaiman Can [****] Off Into The Sun."

One of the many, many artists who had their careers started by @edfringe.bsky.social is Tony Award winning Anna Quayle, who first appeared at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in Better Late back in 1956. Quayle is remembered for Casino Royale (in green paint), Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and Grange Hill.

I support the Prince Charles Cinema! Sign the petition and help save this wonderful and unique venue in the Earth capital: you.38degrees.org.uk/petitions/sa...

Back in 1997, their was a (thankfully) short lived Wallace and Gromit stage show, called a Grand Night Out. Opening at the Peacock Theatre London in November 97, it thankfully didn't last long. Safe for work (it's Wallace and Gromit), but also terrible.

No one is moving the historic, world famous international arts showcase known as The Edinburgh Fringe just because it's a bit of a bother to travel up to Scotland from London. Though do recall that The Camden Fringe is a thing ( @camdenfringe.bsky.social ).

In this house we celebrate Burn's Night with Cranachan. That's Scottish Whipped Cream With Whisky, Raspberries, and Toasted Oats. *burp*

Artist's coming to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe this year - registration is open via @edfringe.bsky.social . Flyer printers (like TheFringeShop) tend to offer free delivery to venues if you book and plan ahead - it also tends to be cheaper that way. So get that done as soon as you can.

If you’re interested in bringing a show to #edfringe 2025, good news: show registration is now open! www.edfringe.com/take-part/ar... There's no rush though - you can register any time, so feel free to visit our website or email our team on [email protected] for more info before jumping in!

Formby debuted at 2012's @edfringe.bsky.social , to great critical acclaim. Ewan Wardrop's powerful biographical story of George Formby, the iconic English actor, singer-songwriter / comedian from the 1930's and 40's. Wardrop also did a piece for YouTube as Formby performing 50 Cent's 'In Da Club'.

We maintain a list of shows we know are coming to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe for 2025. Comment to be added. bsky.app/profile/edfr...

News: @edfringe.bsky.social drop X. Time to Skeet the Media on Blue Sky.

Well SummerHall have finally paid the artists. Apparently the venue will exist this year, but who knows about the future. One thing is clear though, Edinburgh doesn't need anymore posh flats. Scotsman article below: www.removepaywall.com/search?url=h...

Meanwhile, in New York City.

Apply by 10am tomorrow! www.pleasance.co.uk/young-pleasa...

I Am Star Trek came to the Edinburgh Fringe in 2001. (It debuted at Wisconsin's Broom Street Theatre in 1995). A biography of sorts, it focused on the life of #StarTrek creator Gene Rodenberry, and featured nine actors playing over 50 characters.

We thought we’d have a go at creating a starter pack for UK Theatre Companies. Who are we missing? Who wants to be added? #theatresky #uktheatre #theatrecompany #theatrekids go.bsky.app/4JxZjEB

Advert from the 1984 Edinburgh Festival Fringe Programme for Radio Forth, which at the time, ran a split service so it could run Festival City Radio, specifically for the Festival. Not even sure how you'd do such a thing today. Radio Forth is still around, though it's now part of Bauer Media.

Meanwhile, in Glasgow

Just a quick reminder that this exists and if you're planning on working the Edinburgh Fringe it's well worth creating a Fringe Connect account as they record these sessions, and the account will let you access those.

Happy Hogmanay everyone. May your New Year be good, exciting and full of the things you want to experience. (For us, it's more fringe shows, obviously.)

Good List.
