The time for art that screams is always, but especially now.

Today we joined more than 40 journalism organizations in signing this statement, led by @spj-posts.bsky.social, condemning the campaign underway in Washington to penalize independent reporting on the government and its activities......

Musk called DOGE “maximally transparent,” but it has refused to release info about its spending and operations — including the names of its employees. Thankfully, @propublica.org has identified 46 of them, including 12 new names just added to the list today.

Dammit. That's what I thought when I saw the trailers. What a waste of a terrific story.

“Education for All trainings warn that “no one is safe.” Even in blue states, forces such as locally elected college governing boards can go after diversity initiatives.”

Okay, whoever pissed off Elsa, please apologize.

Journalism is the only profession protected by the Constitution because we serve as a check on power, even more critically since other checks are failing. This is dangerous. Healthy democracies do not threaten to jail journalists.

So uhhh I may need to actually start the whole quarterly tax payment thing. Bully for me, right? The sweet stench of success… Freelancers: how much do you self-withhold to avoid getting boned every spring?

“Flu has been brutal this season. The CDC estimates at least 24 million illnesses, 310,000 hospitalizations, and 13,000 deaths from the flu since the start of October… But CDC analyses that would inform people about these situations are delayed, and the CDC has cut off communication with doctors”

"When government officials control which journalists can cover them, they control the narrative, making it easier to hide the truth, avoid accountability, silence dissent and conceal wrongdoing. The press does not exist to serve those in power; it exists to serve the people."

President Trump ordered on Friday that federal funding be withheld from schools and universities that require students to be vaccinated against Covid, White House officials said, another step in the administration’s campaign against coronavirus vaccine requirements.

Truth to power from NM Rep Melanie Stansbury: We don't work for an unelected billionaire. We work for the American people. If an unelected, unvetted private citizen is hacking our govt systems, breaking the law, dismantling agencies, we are going to fight you in court. 👏🏼 @repstansbury.bsky.social

Uhhh… there have been like eight movies about how this is a BAD IDEA.
