Honestly I'm glad they picked Harvard to try out this novel "we're mad" legal theory of revoking tax-exempt status, given its infinite resources, deep network of powerful alumni, and law school attended by 142 sitting federal judges. Good luck! 🫡

As a fan of @tkingfisher.com, reading this comic was disquieting and surreal. theoatmeal.com/comics/wombats

I feel this so very much and also simultaneously feel like one way we're going to get through all of this is to have artists and writers and musicians chucking in to create space for others to experience joy and rest for a moment before going out to fight again in the world. Creation is resistance.

Dear trans people: I believe you. You are who you say you are. I'm sorry that so many people have lost sight of reality.

I opened the door to let my cat in. A minute later, I opened the door to let my cat out. Soon, there was a meow. I opened the door to let my cat in. "Look," I said, "it's either this side or the other side, where do you want to be?" So today I learned about the other other side. It's amazing.

I see it. I have lived it. 83 years ago, the U.S. government turned upon a group of its own citizens and residents and sent them to internment camps without due process. I was there among them. American fascism is back. It is here. It is now.

A very well done deep dive into the topic. (I do wish more of the images included alt-text, though.)

The wizard finished the incantation, and the demon appeared in the sigil. "Let us continue." "Do you really not have any friends who could help," the demon asked "I cannot show weakness." "You'd show strength." "Quiet!" The demon sat, muttering "I can't wait for the invention of therapists."

"I think it's only a matter of time before [a state attorney general] figures out how to file state kidnapping charges against those that are abducting people who are in the country legally..." says former Maryland Governor Martin O'Malley.

One thing I wish people understood about authoritarianism is life often looks more or less the same. Troops aren’t marching down the street every day; people go to restaurants, have their office jobs. But everyone knows that stepping out of line, even slightly, can derail your life with no recourse

If you live in a military town you could do worse in terms of activism than retyping that tweet to be nice and readable and then printing it off in sizes ranging from 1/8th page to full sheet and leaving them absolutely everywhere in town

First time we’ve seen this in any poll in a long time.

"How can I support local journalism?" said no one, ever, but here's how: 1) Subscribe to the digital or physical edition of your community paper 2) Buy ads You know how you get more reporters? When Frank's Furniture Warehouse buys a full page ad 52 weeks a year, you get more reporters.

Foreign Friends with Travel Plans to the U.S. for Conventions: A bit back I said you should maybe reconsider those plans. I would like to amend my prior statement. Cancel them. Cancel them now. We cannot keep you safe from our own government. Take your holiday in Spain or something.

Oh, they've been here all along, and what happens is they run into the wall of "don't engage, just block" and then they get frustrated that no one will bother with them. They just mewl "debate me" in sad, abandoned tones, out in the cornfield, all alone.

Crucial point made here — we should learn from others rather than imagine that everything is new and therefore shocking and impossible to resist. www.newyorker.com/news/the-wee...

Two things are simultaneously true: 1) There are multiple organized operations to artificially manipulate social media sentiment active at any given moment; 2) The asshole you just encountered has a very low chance of being one of them and is probably just an asshole.

The upshot of this article is less what is reported than the fairly clear message that every source in the White House is telling reporters that this fiasco was 100% the fault of Donald Trump. With the exception of Peter Navarro who everyone says is a moron. www.nytimes.com/2025/04/09/u...

Because you cannot actually see this trailer for the TV show based on @marthawells' MURDERBOT too many times, and I was at the vet with the cats when it dropped. (They're all fine, just rabies jabs and annuals.) www.youtube.com/watch?v=vEio...
