I don’t watch hockey. I’m watching tonight. Go 🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦

New OA Publication! Our team worked with elem. teachers to use ChatGPT to enhance their mathematics lessons based on students’ interests. It was a team effort (researchers and teachers) and I’m proud of the result #MathEd #GenAI #EdTech #EdPsych doi.org/10.1016/j.ca... (1/4)

Minister of higher ed interferes directly with a course, determining what can be taught. I guess the academic freedom law passed in Quebec does not apply to those in power. www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

#CSET2025 Dublin chapter of Critical Studies of Education and Technology. Key decisions finally made by the organisers on the official vibe and dress code.

We're on Bluesky now! We are the union representing the full-time academic staff in the Faculty of Education at McGill University.

Last week, as part of our @mcgill.ca LS brown bag series, we did a "speed-mentoring" activity that ended up being SO awesome, much more successful than I had predicted. TL;DR: GREAT activity for community-building! For more details, read on... #AcademicTwitter 1/3 @edtechprof.bsky.social

Online pre-proof (open access) just went up for my team's article, "A scoping review of harm reduction practices and possibilities among Indigenous populations in Australia, Canada, and the United States": www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...

Help us snowball sample this study about how academics in the U.S. react to the executive orders!

THE GOVERNMENT IS CUTTING RESEARCH FUNDING! THAT’S…

Damn it. I have been arguing Canada needs its own version of the WWC and now we must build one.

THE GOVERNMENT IS CUTTING RESEARCH FUNDING! THAT’S…

Universities in Canada are being gutted because politicians wanted to blame them for societal ills. The attack in the USA is more direct and dire. But it has been happening here too. As Canada rises to the current challenges, we should invest in Canadian innovation, invest in our Universities.

I'm very glad that the two Canadian funding organizations my work is currently supported by, NSERC and CIFAR, have publicly stated guidelines and commitments toward diversity, equity, and inclusion in scientific research. www.nserc-crsng.gc.ca/NSERC-CRSNG/... cifar.ca/equity-diver...

Incredibly moving Justin Trudeau remarks: "We have fought and died alongside you....During your darkest hours...we were always there. Standing with you, grieving with you, the American people....Canadians are a little perplexed as to why our closest friends and neighbors are choosing to target us."

Never thought I would see the day the USA would wage economic war against my country.

Hey PIs and reviewers, let’s agree to the folie à deux that is grant budgeting pre-tariffs.

Our new article & first from my SSHRC-funded program of research on using simulation with SP methodology & animated videos to equip surgical residents with tools & experience serving as bystanders when simulated harassment occurs during a medical procedure. www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...

This week has been utterly EXHAUSTING.

the people who want to forcibly take over Canada are moving an event indoors because it is -6C outside. lol. lmao, even.

For those studying EdTech, I highly recommend the ETS podcast by Neil. It takes a critical look at the role of tech in education and looks at the broader impact; the business models, values, and goals of tech makers often conflict with educators and research. podcasts.apple.com/ca/podcast/e...

How is edtech made? It's not just coded by neutral programmers and educators. There is a political economy to edtech development that this @lmt-journal.bsky.social special issue call aims to interrogate

Playing, “Indiana Jones and the Great Circle” during break. Great, but so unbelievable. University fires Indy for focussing on research over teaching.

Christmas Carol is my favourite holiday story. I watch several movies based on it every year. Something about a rich jerk being scared into kindness is evergreen.

Interesting outcome for the toy that inspired some of my labs piece last spring. theconversation.com/ai-products-...

I think this is a way to assetize all compute so future PC tasks all have to be done via a subscription to some cloud service, what AWS has wanted to do for years. Gone will be the days of buying a pc to do your work, you will pay a lifetime subscription to run cloud programs that use AI.

Check out the newest MILES Lab publication! @krisarob.bsky.social and @sanheeta.bsky.social combined data from multiple years of data collection and tried on a critical lens to highlight the motivational experiences of racially and ethnically minoritized students in STEM.

Great article on reliability of knowledge tests. Pure nerd stuff. If knowledge networks are heterogeneous and fragmented then reliability of knowledge tests should reflect this. This is not the case. Alphas > .9. Why? Publication bias due to rules of thumb. www.researchgate.net/publication/...

McGill Learning Sciences brown bag series cont’d this week with professional dev on how to shine when giving and attending talks. Then, PhD students Meiting Chen and Robin Sharma showed us 🔥 examples of the former while we practiced the latter. It’s such a pleasure to be part of this community!
