The Trump admin is paying another country to help them break US law.

This was such a pleasure.

Vance - Europe should be more independent. Also Vance - why are Europeans increasing aid to Ukraine?

Proper order... choices entail consequences.

How interesting. New Book by @philipstephens.bsky.social . Working on my own Book about the UK, I have frequently thought that the relationship between Britain and Ireland is the huge elephant in countless rooms in Westminster. You cannot understand one Island without also studying the other.

LOOK WHAT YOU MADE US DO

What we saw today was two jumped up thugs and their bootlicking sychophants laughing at the US Constitution, the supreme court, and the idea that anyone can stop them from doing anything they want www.theatlantic.com/politics/arc...

Well, there you have it. Contempt of SCOTUS in the Oval Office. Now we find out if John Roberts has a spine.

Yes, nothing new. If you are a non-Five Eyes country (and even then...) you are not doing your job as a government if you do not assume that the US is spying on you and take appropriate security measures.

No words.

Heartbreaking scenes from Sumy this morning as residents gathered for Palm Sunday only to be met by Russian missiles. Horrific example of Russia intensifying attacks while Ukraine has accepted an unconditional ceasefire. My thoughts are with the Ukrainian people today.

For the second month now, Putin has been ignoring the U.S. proposal for a ceasefire. Russia is confident it can continue killing Ukrainians without any punishment in return Russia wants war.Its rapidly growing military machine can only be stopped by force — or by cutting off the money that fuels it

Anybody who spent five minutes in Starmer's company when he was a human rights lawyer knows how committed and genuine he was. If you disagree with his political caution / decisions now, fine, but we do not need such a cynical, hatchet depiction. It sells books but foments contempt for democracy.

Pleased to say that my book - Ulster's Lost Counties: Loyalism and Paramilitarism since 1920 - is available to pre-order in Paperback (delivery from 22 May) via Cambridge University Press. www.cambridge.org/ie/universit...

This cannot be dragged out. Now - the imminent EU Summit - is the moment. Member States must persuade France to freeze its fishing spat with London.

This is not what a customs union means and its not a very encouraging sign if a government which claims "growth" is its top priority is staffed with "senior aides" who think like this.

What an amazing story and an amazing man: After being stabbed by a 17-year-old autistic boy who'd been radicalised by ISIS, this Irish Army chaplain forgave him today in court, the boy called out from the dock "I'm sorry", and the pair embraced.

What are Israel's new goals in Gaza? To "empty permanently" the area around Rafah, around 20% of Gaza's territory; to herd Gaza's 2m people to the coast and create "kill zones" elsewhere; and to control aid distribution, rather than coordinating it with humanitarian groups.

“Russian intelligence is seeking prospective recruits suffering with substance addiction to carry out sabotage attacks in Sweden, with the police consequently being urged to heighten surveillance. The drug addicts are reportedly being sought because of their low social status/effective invisibility”

Very proud to know Niall and his wonderful family. Some of my happiest days as a kid were spent at Thomond Park during the golden Shannon four in a row titles. A lifetime of service to Limerick, Shannon and Munster. The best man to have on your side. www.munsterrugby.ie/2025/04/10/n...

When editors ask why your copy is riddled with errors:

The war is much closer to Europe than it may seem. How to stop it? #MakeRussiaPay: confiscate $300 billion in frozen russian assets and use the money to strengthen Ukraine’s army and Europe’s defence. Europe has the resources - what’s missing is courage.

Hilarious. Knives are already out.

The purge of intelligence professionals continues. Every one of the United States' allies and partners needs to carefully consider what this means for their security.

A much more realistic assessment of Ireland's relations with the Trump White House on RTE Morning Ireland by the Taoiseach - an acknowledgement that there is enormous antipathy towards the EU. He should also acknowledge that Ireland needs to speak up for the EU more / advocate for it in the US.

“My job as a leader of the university is to speak up for the values that we claim to believe in, especially when they’re at odds with people with enormous power.” — Wesleyan University’s President Michael Roth in @newyorker.com (proud to have him continually and publicly defending #HigherEd)

A Memorandum Of Understanding on defence between Ireland and France is long overdue. The first area of increased cooperation - enhanced exchange of naval personnel, joint training / exercises, incl. for subsea infrastructure protection in the Atlantic.

Russians killed more than 20 people in Yahidne village, mostly the elderly who suffocated in the basement of imprisonment due to a lack of oxygen. Others were executed by the Russian soldiers.

The Germans really do get this.

Come to Ireland and say that to our face.

And to think its most dangerous adversary used to be Canada / the British Empire - Professor Doug Delaney of RMC gave an amazing paper on late 19th cent. Canadian war plans to take the islands at UCD recently!

The UK exports £360bn of goods to the EU, on which we now struggle with big non tariff barriers, compared to £60bn to the US. Imagine looking at this sh1tshow and thinking it vindicates Brexit in any way.
