A beautiful image for Blood, Sweat, and Queers by @carolynraship.bsky.social Part of the Rehearsal for Truth Festival. I am directing the play by Tomas Dianiska about a Czech runner who won the world record in track in the 1930's then transitioned to male. www.rehearsalfortruth.org/program/bloo...

Today is Holocaust Remembrance. This weekend, we do our yearly show, Cabaret in Captivity (songs and sketches from Terezin). We are back at Torn Page, my favorite venue for the show. The cast is amazing. The work is amazing. I can't wait to share it. www.untitledtheater.com/cabaret-in-c...

On Trans Day of Visibility, announcing a show that will be part of our festival: Blood, Sweat, and Queers. Written by the Czech playwright Tomáš Dianiška, it is the true story of a runner from the 1930's who won the world record in track at the Woman's World Games then decided to transition to male.

Rehearsal for Truth's Spring Reading Series schedule is out. I'm excited about it. Contemporary plays from Ukraine, Lithuania, Estonia, and an examination of Vaclav Havel's Vaněk character. Come! Good art and subject matter that I feel is very important. www.rehearsalfortruth.org/2025-spring-...

The last few months, I have striven to find islands of peace and calm. For the last hour or two, I was sitting at my computer, reworking some lyrics, connecting to the artists of Terezin 85 years ago. And everything fell away when looking for the right word. Art, as always, is the answer for me.

Cabaret in Captivity is back on April 26 - 27 at Torn Page. Songs and sketches from the Terezin/Theresienstadt camp, in honor of Holocaust Remembrance. Hope you can make it, it's a yearly show but this year seems particularly important. Admission by donation. www.tickettailor.com/events/untit...

The Marriage of Alice B. Toklas by Gertrude Stein will be at Edinburgh Fringe @edfringe.bsky.social, showing @gildedballoon.bsky.social We have an amazing cast @alyssasimon.bsky.social, @barsha.bsky.social, Grant Neale + Jana Leslie Harding! tickets.gildedballoon.co.uk/event/14:5378/

I called Schumer and Gillibrand. And I'm usually not a calling your senator sort, but here I think it does some good for them to hear from us.

Ostensibly this is about protecting Jewish students. Given the demographics of Columbia University, I suspect withholding $400m of funding from the institution will hurt a lot more Jews than it helps. www.washingtonpost.com/education/20...

Looking for a stage photographer who can cover the Rehearsal for Truth Festival. Playbill listing below (mistakenly listed as an internship, asked them to fix that). Feel free to pass the word or get in touch. playbill.com/job/photogra...

If you feel angry about what is happening in the US right now. The best course of action is to support Ukraine directly. We are doing a fundraiser for 25 cars for the Ukrainian armed forces. It goes directly to the military, you can see the videos for everything there car4ukraine.com/campaign/ukr...

No matter what happened in the Oval Office, I am proud to be a Ukranian American. Today and everyday.

I took a photo. I like it. Here it is (Brooklyn Center for Theater Research)

Directing Marty's theatrical jazz set at the Tank, show is 7pm this Sunday. Worth seeing if you are a Wes Anderson fan or just a fan of good jazz. thetanknyc.org/calendar-1/m...

Let’s have a March for Sanity. I don’t know, maybe March 18? Pass it on.

Last Friday, comic @zzdoublezz.bsky.social performed at the Kennedy Center, which had very recently canceled a scheduled performance by the Gay Men’s Chorus. So, Zach invited the chorus on stage to sing during his show instead. They sang "the gayest song we know" (~32:40): youtu.be/DxsK2RTit34?...

Yes, do it!

The Rehearsal for Truth reading series will feature Once Upon a Time There Was a Rooster, a new play by the Ukranian playwright Anna Halas. It deals with a Ukranian family and their encounter with a stray Russian soldier. The festival and the legacy of Václav Havel is more important than ever.

"I don't dare to believe, as Dostoevsky did, that beauty can save our world...We may hope that [literature's] promise of beauty, its challenge of truth, its redefinition of goodness, its unpredictable playfulness will be difficult to abandon even in uncertain and dangerous times." - Norman Manea

I never reach out like this, but just wanted to mention that @bebeneuwirth.bsky.social had one of the most memorable performances I’ve seen in today’s Cabaret. Broke my heart. And What Would You Do? was not just a showstopper, it felt an anthem for our times. Thank you.

Musk killed these people.

A year ago we lost the star in UTC61's The Iron Heel, Charli Ouda. Always charismatic and inspiring onstage and off. What I didn't know when I cast him was his TV star fame in his native country, Kenya. This article I found talks about his many accomplishments www.standardmedia.co.ke/entertainmen...

I am the theatrical consultant for this show (writing, directing). Really fun to work with Marty Isenberg and his band. Drop by March 2, good jazz and a fun experience—especially if you enjoy Wes Anderson. thetanknyc.org/calendar-1/m...

Great reading last night of The Hooligan’s Return, adapted by Saviana Stanescu from the book by Norman Manea. Completely full house and a very engaged audience. Everybody loved our troop of actors! Such a nice experience at the Romanian Cultural Institute, more to come with the project I’m sure.

Presenting the David A. Einhorn Prize to Daniel Damiano. A wonderful 30th anniversary overall, thank you to everyone who participated or attended.

The cast and I after a rehearsal of The Marriage of Alice B Toklas by Gertrude Stein. See it at the 30th anniversary (tickets are sold out, but there are bound to be a few no shows at the door)

Only 8 tickets left for the 30th! Please reserve if you are planning on coming Sunday!

1) Incite violence 2) Remove security from targets of incitement 3) Pardon those who commit violence against the targets.

Seth Gilman and Victoria Davis, with Mila Henry at the piano. Rehearsing two excerpts from The Life and Adventures of Santa Claus, music by Nell Shaw Cohen. Just one of the many exciting events for this Sunday’s 30th anniversary event!

I liked that pastor asking Trump to be merciful. His response on Truth Social was predictable, but she make him respond to something. If she had said nothing, he wouldn't have had to respond to anything. Direct opposition slows them down and changes the steps they take, even if in small ways.
