@lapcatsoftware I honestly can’t remember where StopTheMadness stops and my ad blocker begins sometimes; my mother is complaining about Admiral and other ad blocker stoppers, but I never see those. Is STM saving me or am I just not browsing those sites?

[Severance Spoilers] Severance noticers are insane https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vG26Tu_p_m8

@gruber Any take on Hotline/the revival of it? I've never heard of this software before seeing this thread as someone who was barely online and not on a Mac in the era https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=42959841

I feel very constrained when I lack quick ways of reordering lines of text. I’m so much less nimble when forced to work in a Google Doc than most of my notes apps because of this alone.

@amerpie do you have a current list of your Raycast extensions? I’m very happy in Alfred, but have been thinking about kicking the tires on Raycast over a break

Is there a thread unroller for Mastodon anyone likes? Or a good way to archive a thread other than just bookmarking every post?

@gruber I like the new Fox score bug; I wonder though, what is the *worst* score bug in all of sports right now? NBC RSNs’ baseball score bug is the first that comes to mind for me

@marcoarment as a fellow coffee nerd: Be careful about changing ‘normal’ people’s coffee! People who seem to us fine with ‘any old crap’ often have many things they’re particular about. Maybe not your employees, but they might have a very strong sense of how long the pot needs to be off the […]

MainStage has a major update, but nothing to accompany it in Logic Pro; that's rare. #daw

50° in Iowa in January feels better than any kind of weather anywhere else and you can’t convince me otherwise.

During the first season of Severance I regretted reading the subreddit because so many fan theories wound up being right, so I swore off it for s2. But TikTok has realized I really like Severance, so I’m just as screwed.

I’m honestly not sure how existential a threat LLMs are to large swathes of the educational system re:student assessment. But I feel pretty confident in saying a kid’s never gonna be able to hook a ChatGPT to their saxophone.

I might sound absolutely insane for saying this, but while I never found myself enjoying TikTok that much personally, in some ways I will miss it from a teacher POV

Hoping I can get my school’s main copier in my jazz band the way it loves to jam

@macsparky I sometimes need to make short demonstration videos for students – is there a great way to hide sharing people suggestions when you’re making an iOS screencast you’ve found? Or do you just have a separate device for those?

@gruber There are so many stellar characters and performances in Severance, but no one has such a hard role to master as Tramell Tillman; and he sticks the landing like an Olympic gymnast. They’re all doing a stellar job, but Milchick’s…vibes (which I find literally ineffable) are a microcosm […]

@rizzi I’ll throw out there that my #1 feature request on Reeder (classic) would be better footnote support. I realize some of the challenges inherent in the way they’re setup, but I find NNW has a nice implementation as a model! I like a few things about Reeder better than NNW personally though.

1-week review of Kagi: results as good as Google; nice to search for something without worrying about getting ads for it for the rest of eternity or it screwing up my YouTube recommendations

Goodyear should do a deal with Apple to put immersive cameras dangling off the Goodyear blimp like someone tied to a blimp in an action movie. That’d be a way to watch football.

@mactanaka Hypothetically, is it possible for another app to watch Play if it’s open 24/7 on a Mac and export any data? Say set up an automation to automatically run yt-dlp on anything added to Play?

Alright, think I’m swayed by the recent episode of The Talk Show that @gruber did with @kagihq CEO to roll with Kagi search for a few months. I’m not unhappy with my Google results today given my search patterns and adblocking; but I’m moved by their philosophy to give it a try anyway.

I think part of the appeal of Severance to me is that in that show it is bad that people have a separation from their jobs, and I do not have that in my life and need to feel vindicated in some small way.

If you use #obsidian or any other #markdown interfaces that use callouts, I set up a TextExpander snippet a few months ago for them. Could never remember the syntax or different names for things. https://app.textexpander.com/public/6a6ffb9d843e08f0be7f659d7f99f804

Good post and especially a full and concise critique of BlueSky. https://mastodon.social/@sandofsky/113545231391369159

Does anyone have any decent BlueSky clients? Their default app is so rough. Not trying to argue about BS usage, but for what it’s worth, this still feels like my post-Twitter “home”

@siracusa @marcoarment The Storacusa conundrum as I perceive it: - John wants to do this for fun and learning and be the developer - To do very advanced/'suite' things might be beyond the commitment that John can make or his comfort level - Someone already doing great disk/file utility stuff […]

Life is good.

No one is obligated to use it, but seeing so many people here hate on Surf on principle bums me out. Proprietary or not, with whatever motives, I think it’s cool to see people build stuff on top of this open social network. I want more stuff built on it, even if it’s not for me.

[Unsolicited recommendation] @siracusa forgive me if you don’t want recommendations for your new inbox for things This is totally one of the multiple things I use Drafts for. You definitely know someone who is a heavy user of the app on a different podcast so it’s probably on your radar I know.

Lesson planning is going so well right before Christmas break

Marked is really great. I spent a few years looking at it not able to come up with a use for it in my work; and now I use it all the time. Jump on it while it’s on sale and I bet it’ll find a way into your work. https://nojack.easydns.ca/@ttscoff/113668575882135685

If you’ve updated to 18.2, this might be of interest to you (It might not too) https://www.macrumors.com/how-to/bring-volume-slider-back-iphone-lock-screen/

Drafts is arguably the lynchpin of my entire personal productivity system. It’s fantastic. https://nojack.easydns.ca/@ttscoff/113662915796516267

Folks, I am not doing great.

The Iowa State Cyclones may scorn tradition by wearing so many alternate uniforms of different colors, but they have strongly upheld their now 111 year tradition of not winning their conference #CFB #Iowa

You need to stop what you’re doing and read this thread

Is it good that everyone is more irritated all the time and disdainful about their day-to-day life or bad ?

If I were the mom in Home Alone, my character arc would be remembering two months into a polka tour with John Candy that I have a family I should go back to

I get so much value out of the productivity apps I use that I like to mention them a lot, but there are a lot of great options out there beyond my own system. (I also thought the fact I don’t know all of these super well would help me write a shorter post) […]

@amerpie which of your blogs is the main RSS feed? Just added all three to Reeder and see some overlap; is Amerpie the one that gets everything?

@marcoarment Feature request that sounds like it’d be hard for Overcast, but that’s just a guess: There’s a lot of premium podcasts I listen to where I stay subscribed to the free feed and prefer to listen to free episodes from the free feed so I can share links more easily. Some are obvious […]

If I was fifty years older and somehow not a band director, I think I would be killing it writing parody songs for singing mounted fishes.
