“Science knows no country, because knowledge belongs to humanity, and is the torch which illuminates the world.” —Louis Pasteur

The little angel resting on one shoulder tells me, "There's nothing funny about watching people getting hurt and the accidental destruction of property," but the little angel on the other shoulder tells me, "You have to admit, some of these ARE worthy of a chuckle."

It's disturbing how frequent this occurs, and also disturbing how infrequently it hits the news or people's common awareness. Thank you Brown Eyed Susan for raising awareness of this travesty.

This is the most relevant article to NIH and research cuts I’ve seen. Imagine if this was today , how many people would be saying “Why are we studying Gila Monsters and their impact on diabetes ? That’s wasted money !” globalnews.ca/news/9793403...

“When I was a child I thought I saw an angel. It had wings and kinda looked like my sister. I opened the door so some light could come into the room, and it sort of faded away. My mother said it was probably my Guardian Angel.” — Denzel Washington

In honor of all in NPS that lost jobs indiscriminately. People that: protected arch. sites from looters, rescued the stranded, protected species from extinction, gave school talks, ensured compliance with laws, restored impacted landscapes, fought fires, & rebuilt our crumbling historic legacy.

The article said some of the money to rebuild the dam (that benefits local WY farmers & ranchers) was to come from federal grants. Considering how many such grants are being pulled back & canceled, I wonder what's the status of this project.

"Oligarchy" is a once antiquated word that has been recently resurfacing--ballooning really--as rapidly as an unvaccinated virus. For long, "oligarchy" fell out of common usage--it went with the Spoils System of governance, corrupt political bosses, fascism, and unchecked presidential power. Weird.

If the GOP truly wanted to return to better times, they could look to fellow GOP Teddy Roosevelt as an example. He used the government to champion the disenfranchised, take on corrupt oligarchs & monopolies, & transition power from rich influence peddlers (like Musk) to the average person.

The first John Irving book I read was "A Prayer for Owen Meany." Fabulous. However, I fear this may be his best, since I've started others, but so far, none has compared.

"Lizard People: Death Valley Underground," is set in Death Valley National Park's wild backcountry mountains. The inspiration for this book came from the many odd characters & conspiracy-minded eccentrics that can be found within this enchanting rugged wilderness. amazon.com/Dp/B0CRNZMZNR

With the dismantling of our nation’s founding laws, threatening allies, starting a war with Panama, forcing a take-over of Greenland, fomenting trade wars—& all the while framing Guilder. The new E.O. just made the day last 25 hrs. If Nigel Tufnel’s amp can go to 11, his ego-ness' day can go to 25.

Today is the 25th anniversary of the Kneeland Prairie Penny-Cress' Endangered listing. Back then there was only one population remaining. There doesn't appear to have been an up-dated status review. However, with only one population, there's not much room for any more declines.

Thanks to President Roosevelt's use of the Antiquities Act, we now have Cedar Breaks National Monument.

The Rio Grande (River) in Texas, & the border between the US & Mexico--in 2022. When I took this photo, as far as I could tell, my right foot was in Mexico, and the left was in the U.S. This assumption was later confirmed by the Border Patrol agent who came out of nowhere to see what I was up to.

North Cascades is my favorite National Park (by far). I still recall reading the Oct. 1968 Seattle Post Intelligencer newspaper article reporting on the park's recent creation. The article inspired me to both climb mountains & work for the NPS. Thanks Congress & President for doing GOOD things.

I can't tell you what a bad idea this is. #keepitpublic #keepitwild www.wyomingnews.com/laramieboome...

Rice: Without this water right there would be significantly more risk to the environment. The right protects the stats quo and the status quo is pretty good. #CWCAC2025

Rarely driven. Any takers?

A great place for sightseeing. I spent hours--looking, watching, and experiencing.

Today marks the 27th anniversary of the Endangered listing for the San Bernardino Kangaroo Rat. The 1st action called for in the recently released recovery plan is to conduct research to inform management actions. However, in our current political climate, research funds will likely be scarce.
