Currently, both the torus and the base legs are seperate objects. Since the torus is quite differently shaped, using the rig for the base leg version wouldnt work

Without knowing much about what you are doing…yes your idea is correct. Scale the scrolling speed based on the resolution.
Something like „base speed pix/s multiplied with a res scale factor“

Honestly, this goes against what most people say but learn general programming first. Create some word games in console applications, one or 2 small web apps or a small desktop app. Get familiar with programming first before diving into more complex stuff
