adding new layers of bureaucracy to "root out waste and fraud" will always cost more than the minimal levels of waste and fraud that occur in any reasonably-internally-regulated bureaucracy. and yes, the USG is (or i guess at this point, was) a reasonably-integrally-regulated bureaucracy.

This is the nub of the article that I disagree with. Sticking to the evidence *requires* picking a side on many issues that should never have been politics but now are: climate change, vaccines, public health... Staying neutral denies the science and that can't be scientific or right.

those of us who had a single dose too early (the timing was changed in the early 70s, IIRC) were still at risk. i had it when i was 12. i lost nearly 1/4 of my body weight because i couldn't eat. my skin turned purple from the rash and sloughed off. i was bedridden for weeks.
