Received a much sunnier welcome at #MiddlehamCastle in #Wensleydale on Saturday than a couple of days prior! Absolutely glorious! ☀️🏰

Spent the most glorious hours at #BoltonCastle and #AysgarthFalls today! (And devoured a delicious piece of rocky road from the Bolton Castle cafe!) 🌸☀️

Photos from the beautiful #MiddlehamCastle in #Wensleydale on this very cloudy day! 🏰⚔️ (I then promptly raided the gift shop as usual! Resistance is futile!)

A wonderful visit to #York yesterday to see the Middleham Jewel! 💎

More photos from the wonderful #MedievalWomen exhibition at the #BritishLibrary !! Such a powerful and moving experience! There were many teary-eyed moments! 🥹

Word discovery of the day is ‘yoke-devil’ (17th century): an accomplice in a villainous or immoral undertaking.

Wow! Just wow! What an amazing and beautiful experience! #MedievalWomen

Today I am looking at precious stones & their properties: in one of my Scottish manuscripts, but also drawing in one of my favourite illuminations in Latini's Le livre du Trésor. Each stone is paired with a personification of virtue & set in a Rouen street scene [Bibliothèque de Genève, Ms. fr. 160]

Finally off to London tomorrow to see the @britishlibrary.bsky.social Medieval Women exhibition!! I can’t wait!! ⚔️📜

Finally managed to book tickets to the @britishlibrary.bsky.social Medieval Women exhibition! I can’t wait! ⚔️📜

#OTD, 29 January 1536, Katherine of Aragon, first wife of Henry VIII, was buried in Peterborough Abbey (now Cathedral). Katherine died at Kimbolton Castle, her final residence following banishment from court in 1531.

Zeus still pulling that shit

Hell is empty, And all the devils are here.

Inside you are two She-Wolfs. One is the Queen of England. The other is just the regular kind of she-wolf.

The beautiful #CastleHoward last October! ☀️🎃 One of my favourite places! (And nearby #SheriffHutton Castle is certainly worth a look at, the walk around it is lovely!) #Yorkshire #History

Sunny (and cloudy) memories from #HelmsleyCastle last May! 🌤️

Eleanor of Provence married King Henry III of England on this day in 1236 in Canterbury #medieval #womenshistory thefreelancehistorywriter.com/2022/01/08/e...

Decorated Period windows punched through the Norman walls of the Great Tower #ChepstowCastle. The large 2-light window with upper roundel suggests a very high status room, perhaps a chamber located behind a Great Hall . Upper stage may have been rebuilt as the rubble fill differs

Starting off 2025 with a wonderful bit of #JaneAusten !! 💚

Happy New Year everyone! Here’s to a 2025 filled with history and joy! 🎉🍷

564 years ago today, Cecily Neville experienced unthinkable tragedy when her husband, son, & brother were killed at Wakefield The story is well known: their heads were put on Micklegate Bar, her husband wearing a paper crown What is often ignored, tho, is the impact on Cecily🧵 1/

#OTD 1460 - see King Edward IV’s official Act of Attainder in Rot. Parl. V (1461) a list of Lancastrians who ‘at Wakefield on Tuesday the xxx day of December last past, with great despite and cruel violence, horrible and unmanly tyranny, murdered the said noble prince Duke of York’

#otd 1460: The death of Cecily's husband, Richard Duke of York, and their 17-year-old son Edmund at the Battle of Wakefield. A year later, to the day, Cecily held their Year's Mind service at St Paul's Cathedral in London. Only close family were allowed to attend.

Let us remember Thomas Becket on his feast day at his best: unencumbered with excommunication and politics, smoking a cigarette, arm in arm with Elisabeth Taylor.

Received some wonderful presents today! Merry Christmas everyone! 🎄🍷🎅

Interviewer: can you explain this gap in your resume? Parliament:

Think my family and I have just gone deaf from the screams of joy we let out when Chris and Diane were announced as the winners of #Strictly !! So well deserved!!

So interesting to read how @anniegarthwaite.bsky.social became interested in Richard III and Cecily Neville in The Ricardian Bulletin! I’m absolutely ecstatic to learn her next book will be on Isabella of France (one of my favourite historical women!) I just know it’ll be absolutely phenomenal!! ⚔️🪶

#BeKind

God forbid I just want to collect all the books that I possibly can, move into a mossy cottage in the darkest part of the woods, and make a lil home there amongst the animals and nature.

🎶 Oh, the weather outside is frightful, but books are still delightful. And since we’ve a fresh pot of tea, let us read, let us read, let us read. 🎶

For the medievalists on BlueSky: here is a cool #medieval crown. It was commissioned by Philip I of Namur (1174-1212) and is still being held at the Cathedral of Namur, Belgium. (Photo: Paul Hermans, Wikimedia)

forgetting your headphones at home is the modern equivalent of leaving your sword behind in medieval times

Here is a nice mushroom

I’ve officially started subconsciously opening blue sky instead of Twitter

Word of the Day is a true favourite, as some of you will know. Apricity (17th century) is the warmth of the sun on a winter’s day.

Second episode of ‘Wolf Hall : The Mirror and the Light’ was even better than the first! When I saw the recreation of that beautiful book of hours on screen I almost jumped out of my seat!! Amazing @drowenemmerson.bsky.social !! Can’t wait to see more next Sunday! 📜⚔️

Do you have a moment to talk about our lord and saviour Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen
