Just in case there aren’t enough cat videos in the world already… 😺

One thing I’m seeing re: today’s Apple news is a lot of people blaming Apple. Saying that Apple is selling people out by withdrawing encryption features from the U.K. market. For example, here’s Tim Sweeney. I want to propose a different take.

Government has made UK user data ‘less secure’ with Apple row – Experts | The Independent https://alecmuffett.com/article/112441 #EndToEndEncryption #HomeOffice #apple #backdoor #surveillance #tcn

Apple withdrawing ADP in the UK was inevitable. Whatever the UK's good intention, undermining end-to-end encryption has backfired catastrophically. No way would Apple capitulate and sabotage user privacy globally. As geopolitical stability fractures, the UK weakens its cyber defences.

⚠️ If you’re running an outdated version of Synapse, you’re putting your organisation at risk. 🚨 Version 1.98.0 of Synapse (or older) exposes you to critical vulnerabilities, compliance failures and security risks. 🔐 Get up to date.

💭 After participating in Open Source discussions at @openforumeurope.org, @fosdem.bsky.social and @openuk.bsky.social, @amandine.bsky.social shares her thoughts on how the public sector can best support the open source vendors that are working hard to deliver their digital sovereignty.

Might Britain be kicked out of Five Eyes as a result of its never-ending crusade to undermine end-to-end encryption? US senator Ron Wyden and Congressman Andy Biggs urge national intelligence director Tulsi Gabbard to give the UK an ultimatum.

We've signed the letter to the UK Home Secretary asking for the withdrawal of the TCN issued to Apple under the IPA. We're asking UK govt to listen to experts who continuously explain there are no safe backdoors. You can add your voice by signing this letter until the 20th of February.

UK IPA request to Apple covered by @politico.eu, who quote Element CEO @arathorn.net saying it's a “terrifying escalation in the fight to protect users from blanket surveillance” and describes surveillance backdoors as a “catastrophically flawed idea.”

@amandine.bsky.social joins @openuk.bsky.social today for the ‘Open Source: The Future Challenge' panel at #SOOCon25. She'll address the use of open source without contributing to the project, and highlight various positive funding models from responsible governments.

👋 @fosdem.bsky.social @arathorn.net’s talk ‘The Road to Mainstream Matrix’ starts at 12pm, followed by the first @matrix.org track with @amandine.bsky.social at 1pm. We then have Timo on MatrixRTC and Rust SDKs, @kegsay.bsky.social on federation and @jki.re on Synapse. fosdem.org/2025/schedul...

Excellent analysis on public insurers deploying @gematik.bsky.social TI-Messenger. We keep security updates of community and enterprise-grade Synapse aligned. If properly maintained, community Synapse gives excellent security. The challenge for TI-M is scaling; that's why we offer Synapse Pro.

For those planning to see Matthew Hodgson (@arathorn.net) present “The Road to Mainstream Matrix,” please note it’ll now be *in the main Janson room.* Sunday at 12:00. See you there!

Thanks for organising @openuk.bsky.social, we're looking forward to it!

Super cool to hear Mitchell Baker from @mozilla.org referencing Element and @matrix.org (alongside Firefox) as examples of the need to sustainably fund consumer-facing open source software in order to educate users on open source and give them the ability to compete with centralised alternatives!

Today @amandine.bsky.social joins @openforumeurope.org Open Source Policy Summit 2025 to discuss ‘What can Open Source do for Europe?’ She’ll cover how open source can fuel digital sovereignty, innovation, security, interoperability and federation.

🤩 We’re extremely pleased and proud that @amandine.bsky.social has received the Business & Impact Award at the #EOSA2025 awards ceremony! Thank you @eosa.bsky.social ! Amandine has also accepted an invitation to join the European Open Source Academy as Head of the Business & Impact Section. 🤸

Woohoo, congratulations @amandine.bsky.social 🤩

Looking forward to a busy Sunday at @fosdem.bsky.social with @arathorn.net delivering ‘The Road to Mainstream Matrix’ at 12pm, followed by ‘Matrix State of the Union’ together with @amandine.bsky.social at 1pm. Check out the full list of @matrix.org track talks: fosdem.org/2025/schedul... [1/3]

We've signed the open letter to the @ec.europa.eu calling for strong enforcement of the #DMA. The EU must act decisively to create opportunities, protect innovation and increase consumer choice.

Great analysis piece from @techradarfr.bsky.social highlighting the stark void between secure and insecure communication systems. There is no middle ground. It is, literally, a binary choice.

Quick and easy polls for those essential decisions… 😉
