That so many of you carry on posting on X encapsulates the problem with authoritarianism. Many people hate it but aren't prepared to make even the tiniest personal sacrifice to oppose it [like foregoing the fun of shitposting on the authoritarian propaganda website].

It will never not be astonishing to me that such a floridly pathological psychological case gets to sit in a gold chair in the White House spinning ludicrous narcissistic fantasies and is pandered to by the world's media as though everything were perfectly normal. But here we are.

I had this conversation with somebody yesterday. When I hear somebody talking about the midterms these days, my brain just turns off. like what are you talking about?

I thought this was really poor journalism from Simon Hattenstone. It's astonishing that such a seasoned journalist (as well as many others) continue to be taken in by this psychopath. www.theguardian.com/uk-news/ng-i...

Mohsen Mahdawi of White River Junction, Vermont was illegally detained by ICE during what was supposed to be the final step in his citizenship process. Mr. Mahdawi, a legal resident of the US, must be afforded due process under the law and immediately released from detention.

Your regular reminder that almost everything Trump is getting away with is not because of presidential strength, but because of congressional weakness and judicial deference. The constitutional tools are already there to fix this, but those who can fix it are refusing to do so.

The fascist putsch is being televised. Mohsen Mahdawi's lawyers had to file a petition for writ of habeas corpus at court in Vermont today: he was lifted, totally unconstitutionally, by masked ICE officials and his whereabouts are unknown.

pretty crazy watching the american president on live tv in the oval office planning the construction of concentration camps in a foreign country to house americans

Trump to Bukele on Salvadoran concentration camps: “Home-growns are next. You’re going to have to build about five more places.”

Pouring out a little liquor today for the handful of women astronauts who survived years of onerous training, men, and men only to have the press make Katy Perry their equal.

As I watch Starmer tear up Labour's prospects by attacking people in poverty, abusing those who care about the living world and appeasing the ultra-rich, I feel the same sense of dislocation as I did before the Iraq War. Anyone can see the disaster coming, except, apparently, the government.

Katy Perry: "we're going to put the 'ass' in astronaut" This is like something out of Aldous Huxley but much, much trashier www.theguardian.com/science/live...

Farewell to the great Jean Marsh.

Animal intelligence- the more we look the more we find. And the more human exceptionality slides away www.npr.org/2025/04/12/n...

There's something entirely fitting about the demise of America happening under a pretend-business-mogul-reality-TV character elected by a moronic, deeply infantilised population to the real presidency. Of course. It had to happen like this. www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025...

Said it before and I'll say it again: you can't protect stupid from itself. You can only try to protect yourself from stupid.

I'm partial to a mug or two of Bird & Blend's Rhubarb and Custard tea of an evening. Only trouble is, everytime I make it I hear the theme music to Roobarb and Custard in my head (nanana-nah, nanana-nah) and end up with a 1970s childhood earworm for the rest of the night.

Amazing. After nearly losing her house, and being locked away in a legal battle for years because of one innocuous line in her last TED Talk, @carolecadwalla.bsky.social returns to the Lion’s Den, and calls out the Broligarchs This Is What a Digital Coup Looks Like youtu.be/TZOoT8AbkNE?...

I'm trying to pinpoint exactly when I became a crank on Twitter/Bluesky Posting your views and finding agreement is at first fun, then compulsive, then it goes a bit Red Queen, then you realise you're howling into a void, as in all the other areas of your life

Yes, but is it Art? 😂

A thread to read to remind yourself you're not alone.

No, yesterday would have been. Last year would have been. It's so profoundly too late there's no point in discussing it. Your courts have been subverted. Insider trading is the least of your problems.

Like @GeorgeMonbiot, I too have been stockpiling food. Most people would if they’d read @ProfTimLang’s report on food security. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

Trump's mentality: if he cannot totally dominate, he is a victim. This is a psychopathology, and it's being inflicted on the whole world.
