I am so excited to be in 🇬🇷Athens🇬🇷 to present "A Framework for Auditing Chatbots for Dialect-Based Quality-of-Service Harms" by me, @kizilcec.bsky.social, and @allisonkoe.bsky.social, at #FAccT2025!! 🔗: arxiv.org/pdf/2506.04419

A lot of great nuggets in this article which really resonate. Especially the fear of losing agency or even the cognitive ability to express ideas / communicate without AI doing part of it for us

We have to talk about rigor in AI work and what it should entail. The reality is that impoverished notions of rigor do not only lead to some one-off undesirable outcomes but can have a deeply formative impact on the scientific integrity and quality of both AI research and practice 1/

this is so important!

🚨In PNAS🚨 The right often accuses fact-checkers of political bias But we analyzed Community Notes on Musk's X and found posts flagged as "misleading" are 2.3x more likely to be written by Reps than Dems! The issue is Reps sharing misinformation, not fact-checker bias... www.pnas.org/doi/10.1073/...

Started my first ever real crochet project and it’s so satisfying and rewarding this is fun

I just landed in Boston…giving my commencement speech at MIT tomorrow and I had the thought, “I wonder if I need a dress shirt for this” and, yall, I do.

as a graduation gift for myself, i traded for 2 wishlist plants from a nice guy in my neighborhood. thanks @bennokrojer.bsky.social for helping me carry them back to my apartment!

Dear ChatGPT, Am I the Asshole? While Reddit users might say yes, your favorite LLM probably won’t. We present Social Sycophancy: a new way to understand and measure sycophancy as how LLMs overly preserve users' self-image.

And just after finishing my thesis and submitting to EMNLP, she bloomed! Who knew that this is the price to get your Hoyas to bloom?

theres seriously nothing more exciting than discovering the first peduncle on your hoyas! i got both of these plants right when i started my masters, its only fitting that they bloom right when i finish my degree! proud plant mama :)

Thesis due in 58 hours, Overleaf is down 😭

Just out in WWW last week! 📜Our work on substitution patterns between Wikipedia and ChatGPT. We find *heterogeneous* impacts, where Wiki articles that are similar to ChatGPT outputs see a greater drop in views than dissimilar articles: arxiv.org/abs/2503.00757

when ordering coffee in the US, the usual misspelling of my name used to always be "Eleanor" but more recently ive only been getting "Elanor" or "Elenor" which i'm curious about since i've never met in quebec, i usually get "Eleonor" or "Eleonore" or "Elenor"

I'm joining Wisconsin CS as an assistant professor in fall 2026!! There, I'll continue working on language models, computational social science, & responsible AI. 🌲🧀🚣🏻‍♀️ Apply to be my PhD student! Before then, I'll postdoc for a year in the NLP group at another UW 🏔️ in the Pacific Northwest

Thanks for all who came to my poster (at #NAACL) for the interesting and lively discussions! I am feeling excited and grateful :)

Coming to an ICML near you arxiv.org/abs/2502.03689

Come to my keynote tomorrow at the first official @queerinai.com workshop at #NAACL2025 to hear about how trans languaging is complex and cool, and how this makes it extra difficult to process computationally. I will have SO many juicy examples!

Exciting news!!! This just got into @icmlconf.bsky.social as a position paper!!! 🎉 More updates to come as we work on the camera-ready version!!!

We won a Senior Area Chair Award at NAACL!! Many thanks again to my amazing coauthors Gaurav Kamath and @sivareddyg.bsky.social :-)
