Every major UK newspaper - left, right, broadsheet, tabloid - is running a front page campaign against copyright carveouts for AI training. I can't remember the last time any political cause had such broad support, let alone one so anti-big tech and so economically consequential.

I started watching ‘A Kind of Spark’ (Elle McNicoll) today, which I’ve been meaning to watch for a very long time. It’s absolutely brilliant!

Wish You Were Her by Elle McNicoll!! 😍 So excited to be a part of the COVER REVEAL for Elle's new book!! It looks so amazing!! #coverreveal #newbook @panmacmillan.bsky.social

I was lucky enough to be pre-approved for Elle McNicoll's latest YA novel, so I'm getting stuck right into another fun book with an autistic main character. #diversebooks #booksky

I have just finished this and loved being back in Lake Pristine. This gorgeous story seems effortless...just pure joy to be with the characters that I was effortlessly all in with from Chapter 1. An addictive read that had my heart! In my head Jonah is Miles Teller in Footloose😊

I've asked Authors Aloud to close my bookings for now because they were a bit overwhelming. Often the case in the lead up to World Book Week & World Autism Month I have a YA out in June & MG out in Autumn. If you'd love a school visit, bookshop visit, etc--please get in touch with the publishers!

#UKYA at its finest #KidLitUK

Wish You Were Her! Neurodivergent YA, coming this summer. It's about a celebrity who gets a summer job as a bookseller in a small town book festival and falls in love with a grumpy colleague. Preorders are open!!

I talk about @ellemcnicoll.bsky.social to anyone who’ll listen, and this has added fuel to that fanatic fire🤍

As usual in half term I had a massive list of jobs and DIY I wanted to do. My brain meant I couldn't stop til done. Now I am having some time alternating between the new @mglnrd.bsky.social which I told my class I would have finished and the new YA from @ellemcnicoll.bsky.social . Lucky, lucky me!📚

Congratulations to all of the amazing indies who are nominated for Bookshop of the Year with the Nibbies!! So many brilliant nominees, all worth winners.

A wonderful #YA enemies-to-lovers romcom, #WishYouWereHer by @ellemcnicoll.bsky.social is a welcome return to Lake Pristine as 18-year-old actress Allegra's much-needed summer break sees her clash with annoying bookseller Jonah. Out 05/06 @macmillankidsuk.bsky.social #NetGalley

I need to shout out @jacquisydney.bsky.social & @karenwallee.bsky.social They have been constant supporters of middle grade & young adult writing. I always see them showing up for debut authors, as well as those of us who are on our 6th or 7th go. I'm so grateful to both of them today! Thank you!

Publishing 5/6, Wish You Were Her is @ellemcnicoll.bsky.social 2nd YA and it's an utter triumph that's given me the biggest book hangover. You absolutely have to head back to Lake Pristine! Here's my review @macmillankidsuk.bsky.social kandobonkersaboutbooks.blogspot.com/2025/02/whis...

I'm currently in a reading slump. Not enough time and prioritising other aspects of life... However got this email and hoping to make the time to read it! 🎉 @ellemcnicoll.bsky.social @panmacmillan.bsky.social

Book borrowing is up 31% compared to this time last year! Here are our most popular books!

Talking about being an autistic author and writing neurodivergent books in the Middle East has been extraordinary. To meet other neurodivergent women from this part of the world is just amazing. The event ended up being very emotional for a lot of us. I'll never forget it. Thank you.

We sit on the committee for Retford Book Festival, looking after children's and the first festival will be held in June. Thrilled to confirm that William Hussey and JP Rose will be joining us! Our crowdfunder is still live, shares welcome. Thank you ❤️ www.crowdfunder.co.uk/p/retford-bo...

This is awesome. From a custom knife forging shop in Edom, Texas.

Thank you @ellemcnicoll.bsky.social for writing this absolute beauty. Loved it! 😍💗 @readingrocks.bsky.social @thereaderteacher.bsky.social

"If you miss #TheTraitors, don't worry, The Apprentice is back next week" yeah alright, if you miss Christmas don't worry, it's Ash Wednesday next week. Fuck are you on about.

Trump has deployed active military to help round up migrants and put them into detention camps. The military forced us out of our homes at gunpoint in 1942 because we were considered possibly disloyal Americans. They sent us to internment camps for four years. History is repeating. Pay attention.

The reason A.I. is being shoved down our throats is shareholders want a return on their investment. Every company that integrates this crappy tech into their products knows you don't want it, but they've sunk too much money into it and don't care. Turn it off, don't use it, don't look back.

Great thread. If I talk about Scotland, as an actual Scot... I'll never stop.

This matters. Not because I think Trump is capable of mercy or empathy towards these vulnerable groups. But because it is a public act of defiance. Contrast that with all these other powerful people in this country signaling nothing but appeasement and obedience.

Made it into the sea again today. Too rough to get out of the bay so less fish - but still more and prettier ones than we get at home! Good to be back in the water. One of my fave lines from @ellemcnicoll.bsky.social "a kind of spark" television sequel is "the water will hold you, if you let it"

"If you want to use a copyrighted work, you ask permission, and then you pay for it. Anything else is theft, and anyone arguing for anything else is harming the UK creative industry." Amen to @richardosman1.bsky.social on the government's pernicious AI proposal. www.theguardian.com/technology/2...

Our next #BookTrustRepresents virtual author visit with the brilliant @ellemcnicoll.bsky.social is starting soon! We'd love to hear if your school will be joining us 🙌

Currently writing a book with big feelings, which means moping about the house in between sessions with big feelings. See also: January A book in progress can be like a lovely affair that feels secret and fun. Or it can be a leech that drains you dry. At least there are no 'quick videos' today.

Choose 20 books that have stayed with you or influenced you. One book per day for 20 days, in no particular order. No explanations, no reviews, just covers. 💙 📚 3/20 @ellemcnicoll.bsky.social

Just got an invite to go back to one of my old primary schools as an author. Always such a nice email to get!!! I'm not a total embarrassment!!!

Great letter in today's Guardian. What sort of free speech is prevented by factchecking, Zuck?

Absolutely obsessed with this line from Linda. Incredible. #TheTraitors

My favourite/best books of 2024. Picking one single winner would mean choosing between I Hope This Finds You Well and The Ministry of Time and I just can't do that. One literary fiction One massive debut One commercial fiction One middle grade On young adult One rom-com One set of essays

commenting on something happening in some corners of tiktok right now but this is a general observation: it is absolutely brain-breaking how so many people have lost the ability to disagree with someone without denouncing them as ontologically evil or pathological or whatever else
