🇺🇸 “Rolling Stone reached out to all 53 GOP senators after the president said he didn't know whether he needs to honor the nation's founding document. None replied.” www.rollingstone.com/politics/pol...

If Laura Loomer knows it’s wrong, it’s grotesquely, incontrovertibly, horribly wrong.

Why is this story not in an American paper Let’s tell more stories of how responsible governance can benefit more people and give them increased opportunities, instead of the supposed inevitably of the oligarchs having everything there is www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025...

Wanna reduce crime? Open more libraries. "we find within the nearby proximity of the library; there is a substantial reduction in frequency of burglaries, vandalism, robberies, fraud, and assaults." link.springer.com/article/10.1...

People. The name of the org is “the Democratic Party”. “The Democrat Party” started as a pejorative version of this, specifically used by the Republicans, especially right-wing Republicans, to avoid associating the party with democracy. They keep using it to piss people off. So, you know, don’t?

I see this all the time now when I open a digital book online. It wants to give me AI summaries for chapters. I ignore those prompts. We’re being conditioned not to read or think for ourselves.

cannot stress enough how little thought has gone into the destruction going on it’s ctrl-f for bad words, with not a single person double checking what the underlying program actually is it’s firing everyone who is “probationary” without even looking at their job title pure smash and grab

But could we feed some to #RFK first? His brain is missing its worm. And he has many screws loose, so a screwworm is just what he needs, right?

NEW SCOOP from me: Trump's next nominee for surgeon general Casey Means' lack of an active medical license is more than just a concern about qualifications: it may bar her from confirmation, as she does not meet statutory and appointment requirements. lastcampaign.substack.com/p/trumps-nex...

"There's a reason you separate military and the police. One fights the enemies of the state, the other serves and protects the people. When the military becomes both, then the enemies of the state tend to become the people." - Commander William Adama, Battlestar Galactica

Like I said, things bode ill for your society when people start feeling like they’re being actively punished for being honest and hardworking

it's up to you to not die from measles, pull yourself up by the bootstraps dammit

I wonder what happened around January 20 to make the American air system go to shit? Hmmm......

this guy is out here proudly being a eugenicist freak while people at mainstream and "respectable publications" make excuses for him or even muse about whether he has a "few good points"

🤣🤣

Gave a talk to faculty at @uwbioe.bsky.social & happened to dress like the department chair! Energized by how much these bioengineers/educators care about training the next gen of researchers. Thx, @pmjboyle.bsky.social & Dr. Princess Imoukhuede for supporting #SciComm. #Bioengineering #PhD #STEM

Now I want a lemon cookie, @rachelbelle.bsky.social! #Seattle #FreePantry Thanks, @alaskaairlines.bsky.social for supporting local #journalism! www.cascadepbs.org/culture/2025...

It's always a good day for some #SciComm #journalism. Wildfire researcher deported amid growing rift between Indonesian government and scientists | Science | AAAS www.science.org/content/arti...

I seriously thought that students not using their brains and letting them rot inside their heads was going to be the existential problem with ai in academia, but now I see that the death knell is actually the total disruption of good faith and trust between teachers and students

I, for one, am tired of [gestures broadly]. I have grown weary of [points in all directions simultaneously].

Was in DC a few days ago. Talking with #SciComm folks who are now #FiredFeds was heartbreaking. I'm still processing the conversations about #journalism, #research, #FreedomOfPress, #democracy I had with current & former staff at #NASA, #NOAA, #VoiceOfAmerica, #NIH, #HHMI, #AAAS and media outlets.

Right now I have so many tabs open on my desktop and such a long to-do list that I feel like I'm not doing anything well and my computer is going to crash--mind and machine are both overtaxed and underpowered, performing sluggishly. Attaching a pretty plant photo. Please know I am trying my best.

Saw this quote, attributed to Bruce Lee (I didn't verify): "Don't speak negatively about yourself, even as a joke. Your body doesn't know the difference. Words are energy and they cast spells, that's why it's called spelling. Change the way you speak about yourself, and you can change your life."

While I don’t advocate for destroying objects that are already made and took a lot of resources & energy to make, this IS fun to watch! #Tesla v. #ShermanTank (cool to see how steady it is up close).

Viable Post-LLM Pedagogical Strategy: – In-person, active learning only – One-on-one instruction – Examination via practical tasks – No lectures, just enigmatic remarks – Classes offered only in Swamp – Breaks for intensive physical exercise – Hit obstreperous droids with walking stick

Fannnntastic. Everything is fine. Great time to roll back environmental protections.

Importantly, much of this is the foundational research emergency managers need to be able to accurately conduct risk assessments and make decisions about what risk to put their extremely limited resources towards mitigating and preparing for…

sometimes you need a palate cleanser from the depressing news (e.g., attack on science and medical research, etc.)

The question: Is deporting children with cancer who are U.S. Citizens wrong? Not a single Republican said yes.

"Your talk today was overwhelming in all the right ways. It'll finally move [me] to explore & benefit directly from AI." "Thanks for the lecture you gave on AI tools & their pitfalls. I've been mostly avoiding AI, but I'll try some that you mentioned. I'm glad you discussed the environmental cost."

This writing group—helping researchers communicate their science better—has been a joy! I've learned from former PI & plant biologist @ehaswell.bsky.social (what goes into a figure title) & PhD science writer Georgina Salazar (amazing outlines for grad students who are writing their 1st manuscript).

The importance of local #news can’t be understated. In plain English, local #journalism matters. It helps communities feel connected. Stories evoke empathy. Community breaks down barriers and reduces racism. Without local news, the U.S. will become more polarized. They want us dumb & divided.

You forgot to mention she resigned in protest in January after you killed her cartoon about your plutocrat owner.

Another day. Another couple hundred pieces of plastic from a dead seabird chick.

I think this is probably the very thing we need to read right now. The whole world needs to snap out of listening to antiscience crap, so called anti-elitism, which is really just trying to keep intelligent experts from having any power to sway the agenda of unfettered greed.

www.yahoo.com/news/washing... Former Washington Post cartoonist Ann Telnaes, who resigned in January over the paper spiking a cartoon that depicted the newspaper’s owner, Jeff Bezos, and other tech titans bending the knee to Donald Trump, won the Pulitzer Prize on Monday.

As Musk finishes his tenure with DOGE he leaves services worse, ignored need for upgrading IT or medical insurance overcharging & his “savings” don’t include costs of firings, rehirings, severance pay, paid leave & lost productivity involving >100,000 workers costing taxpayers $135bn this year.

and his megachurch business is not taxed

I don't 'refuse to use' AI, I just don't use AI; in the same way that I don't shoplift, or plagiarise other people's books - it requires no effort of will, it's just not something I would think of doing

Reading some of the replies here is seriously pissing me off. Y'all, it's not just "the best and brightest" leaving for Canada we're looking at here. It's also *all the people downstream* of them. I am a new PI just finishing my first year. I employ (at various levels) 5 undergrads.
