See this? It's called a non-inferiority trial. It compares the new vaccine with the current vaccines to see if the new vaccine does better. This new vaccine did. Placebo-controlled trials are not needed to test most new vaccines. Demanding them will only reduce vaccine access. Which is the point.

Which FDA-approved vaccines had randomized, placebo-controlled trials? ALL OF THEM. Polio? Measles, mumps, rubella? Haemophilus influenzae B? Diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis? Meningococcus? Varicella? Pneumococcus? Rotavirus? RSV? Hepatitis B? Influenza? HPV? COVID-19? Shingles? YEP. A thread🧵 1/

So we haven't heard much in the news about H5N1 lately...is it because the threat is gone? I don't think so. Viruses don't just go away when you stop looking for them. I spoke with @carlynzwaren.bsky.social @salonnewsroom.bsky.social about it 👇 www.salon.com/2025/04/30/b...

RFK Jr. is now ordering the CDC to fund studies of measles treatments using unproven “vitamins and drugs”. Literal malpractice. We already have something that prevents measles safely and effectively. The MMR vaccine.

Friendly reminder that Measles is a 100% preventable disease. Wake up!

A new analysis by Stanford epidemiologists predicts that measles could become endemic again in the US in the next 20 years. This would be a catastrophic failure and a result of anti-vax propaganda. Measles is a vaccine-preventable disease that was declared eliminated in the US in 2000.

Another nice Costa Rican hummingbird, the tiny Violet-headed Hummingbird. At @tapirvalley.bsky.social #birds #hummingbirds #nature

In & Out Burger was the first fast food chain to force employees to get a doctors note to be able to mask. Panda Express followed & now we’re hearing that Starbucks may enact a similar rule. If you stopped masking, you made this easier. We need visibility. We need to normalize masks.

Breast cancer diagnoses rose by over 300% between 1973 and 1992. Was there a breast cancer epidemic?! NO. Mammograms were implemented for screening in 1976. PREVALENCE is a function of being able to correctly diagnose something. This is also about autism.

As a person who has studied history, an autism registry is a five alarm fire.

Went on @60minutes.bsky.social to talk to Bill Whitaker about H5N1. As Kamran Khan from Bluedot told Bill, we don’t know if or when this virus might acquire pandemic capabilities, but it can. And if it does, as I told Bill, that will be worse than COVID. Much worse. www.cbsnews.com/news/bird-fl...

This is the way to fight back. Not just rejecting illegal demands, but also arguing affirmatively for the value of university research.

If H5N1 starts spreading human to human, we need to detect it fast to stop a pandemic. To detect H5N1 spread between humans, we need to test people at high exposure risk. To test those people, we need to ensure they aren’t risking being permanently disappeared to a foreign torture prison.

autism isn’t an epidemic btw

Baby chicks were never an appropriate Easter gift for children, but especially not now with the spread of Bird Flu. 🐣 Get a toy chick and sponsor a rescue bird instead! www.merrymacfarmsanctuary.org/meet-the-birds

Autistic humans are taught early that our needs are inconvenient. So we learn to shrink. To mask. To make ourselves easier to be around. But poor boundaries aren’t just about saying yes too often. They’re about abandoning ourselves before anyone else can. Unlearning that isn’t easy.

While not as showy as some Colombia hummingbirds, I really love the Indigo-capped Hummingbird. These have a very limited range in the central Andes. #birds #hummingbirds 🌿

It boils my piss that the news stories are continuously 'are we over-diagnosing mental health problems?' rather than 'oh my God what have we DONE to ourselves that SO many people are SO profoundly unhappy and anxious and unwell?'

mY belly is only a trap about half the time!

Hate it when one of your doors just falls out of its frame, totally unhinged behaviour

“why didn’t you just do it earlier?” oh sorry i left my functioning executive system in my other pants

My haters are legion, but a variant I particularly dislike are the “you’re too sexy” crowd. If you find me sexy & can’t deal with your feelings about that, it’s not my problem. The solution is not for me to be less sexy, it’s for you to shut the fuck up & cope with your misogyny.

Freddie Mercury eating soup in bed with his cats is perhaps the biggest mood

it’s friday! you survived another week in the hell simulator. treat yourself today and don’t forget to DRINK WATER, TAKE YOUR MEDS and VITAMINS. remember staying alive is resistance 🫡

We calculated the CFR for currently circulating H5N1 in this review and it’s 2%. While it’s good that it’s much lower than 50%, if there is a H5N1 pandemic and 2% holds, at global scale that’s hundreds of millions of dead people. I completely agree: the situation is bad enough without the hyperbole

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

gonna get me a didgeridont
