The DOGE firings have nothing to do with “efficiency” or “cutting waste.” They’re a direct push to weaken federal agencies perceived as liberal. This was evident from the start, and now the data confirms it: targeted agencies overwhelmingly those seen as more left-leaning. 🧵⬇️

Everything is fine… from the official White House account on X

Vildt nok. 🧵

Huge congrats to dr. Filstrup! As her supervisors mentioned: she’s both incredibly bright and ditto kind.

Oplysning til togbrugere om banens tilstand: hvis du overvejer at tage DSB mellem landsdele i dag, så lad være. Pt. Er jeg to timer forsinket mellem kbh og Odense #da

There’s an interesting but chilling interview with Rohit Chopra, the recently fired Director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, in the latest episode of Pod Save America (Is Elon a drag on Trump). Chopra talks about Elon Musk’s love of the “everything app” 1/3

I am, as always, impressed by pudding.cool, and as usual, they’ve nailed communication: by placing you as the user within the visualisation. That’s what you naturally do while reading that kind of story anyway, but this approach significantly enhances identification: pudding.cool/2024/11/sitt...

Utroligt - Bibi gav Trump en guldbelagt Apollo-personsøger i torsdags. Ja, den model.

Words that can trigger scrutiny and potentially cause funding to be denied by the US National Research Foundation include: female, gender, women, and hate speech… source www.washingtonpost.com/science/2025...

Where do you go when you’ve had enough of tech bros? I've written a bit about alternative platformes to the usual meta, x, google-owned stuff: www.reconstructing-journalism.com/2025/01/23/w... (english version) www.reconstructing-journalism.com/2025/01/23/h... (Danish Version)

At tale med Trump? #da

If I still worked in a newsroom and not at uni, I would apply immediately. The Reuters Institute is offering journalists the chance to explore a subject they are passionate about, and get paid to do it. I’m always a bit jealous of those who get the fellowship!

Tracey Emin on the importance of art, being working-class, being a woman, and being an artist. Such an inspiring half hour with Dame Tracey

I feel so commodified. 😔

[da] I fredags havde jeg æren af at uddele dette års Cavling-pris, hvis du er nysgerrig på begrundelsen, så kan du læse velkomst- og vindertale her:

Interesting thread! Another thing, I think we’re missing in the debate about Metas changes is: how do they handle their algorithms. One thing is what people can post, another thing is: which parameters are Meta using for amplifying content? If rage is a parameter, it amplifies all these problems

NEW: I've obtained internal Meta docs revealing an array of sample posts that are now allowed under new hate speech rules. Examples include calling children "trannies," “Jews are flat out greedier than Christians," and “immigrants are grubby, filthy pieces of shit” theintercept.com/2025/01/09/f...

Our Stage Talks return on the 16th of January. Can't wait? If you want to listen to conversations with leading voices from the open source research field, academia and journalism you can find all of our previous talks on podcast platforms under 'Stage Talks with Bellingcat' rss.com/podcasts/bel...

The entire day on BBC Radio4 is dedicated to celebrating 100 years of The Shipping Forecast. The best 1st of January ever! Arts, culture, and history: “Seamus Heaney described the bulletin itself as “verbal music … bedding the ear with a kind of linguistic hardcore that could be built upon some day”

I’ve been playing around with my last.fm data from the past six years and Flourish.studio. Forget Spotify Wrapped—here are the 20 artists I’ve listened to the most and how the percentage of listening has changed since 2018 (just trying to get better at working with data and Flourish).
