Went to a client's retirement party tonight, and I couldn't help but think, "Will I be able to retire? Who knows what the world will look like in 25 or so years!"

Another parent at gymnastics said to me, "That little girl hopping on one foot seems like she has a lot of energy." My response, "She does, that one's mine."

Manager: "What's this milestone 'Living on a prayer' ?" Me: "That's the documentation deliverable." Manager: "What's the status of that?" Me: "We're halfway there" Manager: "Why is progress so slow?" Me: "You fired Tommy" Manager: "So?" Me: "Tommy used to work on the docs"

Exactly why I've been writing, podcasting, and damn near screaming about using the right language. The mainstream media is failing us SO badly right now. Stop. Calling. This. Shit. DEI. This is (re)segregation. This is racial purging. Cleansing Black people from positions of power.

We decided to spend the weekend at a waterpark hotel to get a break from reality, and they had to close the pool early because a kid threw up in it.

There is no school today, but I have a Zoom hearing because the Wisconsin state courts don't recognize President's Day as a holiday.

Switched back to my more casual photo, as it feels a little more in line with what I actually post about.

I'm watching the very first SNL episode, and while comedy has changed a lot, there are definitely some bits that have made me laugh out loud.

“I expect you will eventually find someone who is enough of a fool, or enough of a coward, to file your motion. But it was never going to be me.”

I volunteered at my kid's Valentine's Day tea party at school, and spending the afternoon in kindergarten wss a wonderful distraction from, you know, everything else.

I laughed during the daily recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance in first grade and had to miss recess for being "disrespectful."

Tenley is not pleased to be at the vet.

During a winter storm we make pineapple upside down cake. 6YO was responsible for fruit placement.

Happy it's Friday, going to attempt unplugging for the weekend.

All of this. I would just add that the US promotion of rights abroad (to counter the Soviets) led to the expansion of Civil Rights at home. Signaling to dictators that the US does not care about human rights empowers Trump to brutalize his domestic enemies. Excuse my horrors and I’ll ignore yours.

I've decided we need to celebrate good things when we can, so here's mine for the day: I settled a case that was so old, I inherited it from an attorney who retired in 2023.

I judged a high school mock trial tournament today, which restored a bit of my hope for the future.

January feels like it has been a whole year.

Exactly! I contacted my Democratic senator about this; the party's messaging has been absolute garbage.

Auschwitz was at the end of a long process. It did not start from gas chambers. This hatred was gradually developed by humans. From ideas, words, stereotypes & prejudice through legal exclusion, dehumanization & escalating violence... to systematic and industrial murder. Auschwitz took time.

I thought we had managed to avoid the various illnesses going around, but apparently not as 6-year-old seems to have some combo of a cold and norovirus.

The President of the United States is openly talking about ethnic cleansing.

Used my law degree for good today, meaning I notarized some documents for a friend.

New, from me: Trump and his Secretary of Defense are proposing a purge of military officers. To understand what this means, I talked to military experts and looked at Trump's accusations of "woke Generals." Bottom line: The purge represents a huge democratic risk.🧵 open.substack.com/pub/donmoyni...

I knew this was coming, but it's one more horrifying thing in a sea of horrors.

This is an excellent thread.

The price of eggs in the US is spiking, mostly due to #H5N1 bird flu. Solving the problem requires urgent, important communications from the CDC & FDA* and rapid development of research by the NIH** * Currently paused by Executive Order ** Grant reviews now all canceled www.kcur.org/news/2025-01...
