First weekend of shows done. Every seat in Java Cat was filled tonight it felt like! (not that there were a lot of seats, it's a small venue). Two more weekends of shows to come!

This weekend I am making my directorial debut, directing 2 shorts with Pile of Cats Theatre Company! Come and see the full show Meme, Myself, & I, this Friday, February 28 at 7 pm at Java Cat Coffee House, or Saturday, March 1, at Java Cat, March 8 (7 pm) & 9 (2 pm) at Wil-Mar neighborhood center.

I've spent the past few days trying to learn Nuxt.js (since just about everyone in the Vue community seems to rave about it, and it promises faster page load times). So far my biggest takeaway has been that I constantly have to work around the SSR for good interactivity, and NuxtUI is buggy.

My attempts to distract myself today while grieving and home sick at the same time yesterday and today have given me a big chunk of time to work on personal projects. Specifically, I rebuilt the data structures for creatures from the ground up. elthelas.com/tools/runner2

My Dad passed away early this morning.

Received word yesterday that my Dad was hours to days left to live, as he is slipping into a coma. Alzheimer's sucks. It's going to be a rough week.

School is cancelled due to extreme cold, Jesse and the kids are all sick, and we just inaugurated a criminal as President. Happy birthday to me!

For those interested in community theater in Madison, we just finished our first weekend of shows for Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. 3 more shows next weekend! Come check it out! www.sunprairiecivictheatre.com/charlie-2025...

💡 By 2050, the global annual cost of dementia care is projected to hit $1.6 trillion.👀 Lets frame this 🤔 ...laid end to end, that’s enough dollar bills to stretch far beyond the Sun 🌞 — and nearly back, an astonishing 155 million miles. Repost if you found this interesting & follow us today!

Confirmations keep on coming in that the new editorial regime at washpo is concerned first and foremost with protecting Daddy Bezos. I had been a paying subscriber for 5 years before the refusal to endorse this fall. Won't go back unless I see a substantial change. www.npr.org/2025/01/04/n...

Saw Mercury Players Theater's Panto, Scooby Doo and a Panto Too yesterday afternoon with @failbot7000.bsky.social and the family. It was a hilariously campy good time. Well done to the whole cast!

Madison YIMBYs still need a candidate to run against Harrington-McKinney in District 20. She is one of the least YIMBY candidate on the council.

Literally crying cause I was laughing so hard. And of course Jesse was trying to do a Duolingo reading exercise about buying shoes at the same time.

YOU ARE A TRUE WARRIOR. I AM PROUD OF YOU.

New subdivision, cool, drop paid parking at parks, yeah that makes sense people were pretty pissed about that, and censuring an abuser! Spicy!

Worth watching for the Barbie(barian) pun alone.

I've been trying to write again, and am working on a companion novel for my new D&D campaign setting. No guarantees that it is any good, but here is the first draft of chapter 1. www.worldanvil.com/community/ma...

For my latest D&D homebrew project, I reworked species/ancestries for my upcoming setting (select Materia at the top of the link), including a new system for mixed ancestries. It won't be in use probably for another year or so, so plenty of time for input. elthelas.com/options/ance...

The true test of BlueSky will be when it is mainstream enough that conservatives, and conservative media, join the platform. Will the moderation services be ready for the firestorms? Are we correct that choosing your own feed will reduce the reach of inflammatory speech? We will find out.

So proud of the great work happening in Minneapolis, which shows that boosting housing supply helps make homes more affordable.

YOU CANNOT GRIND THE BONES OF YOUR ENEMIES INTO DUST TOMORROW IF YOU DO NOT SATE YOUR THIRST.

We took the boys to the dairyland family restaurant this morning as a special treat since they don't go back to school until tomorrow. We've been taking them there since Bart was less than a week old. When we go without them, they always ask where the kids are. www.dairylandfamilyrestaurant.net

1. The conventional explanation for food deserts—that these places are too poor or too rural to generate enough spending on groceries, or too Black to overcome racist corporate redlining — fail to grapple with a key fact: food deserts didn’t used to exist. My new piece in The Atlantic.

Movie night with the family tonight. Shazam 2 was the choice. Gotta say it was kind of disappointing. First movie really focused on the found family thing, and was light hearted. This one had a lot of gratuitous violence and the jokes didn't land.

Yesterday my older sister sent me a photo of my dad, asleep and looking barely alive. Alzheimer's sucks. I wish there was a way he and I could meaningfully reconcile at this point. Hard to cope with knowing that he is still alive, but he's not really there anymore.
