That’s right. DON’T RANK THE CREEPO

Many years later, as he faced the media's proverbial firing squad, Zohran Mamdani was to remember that distant afternoon when he went to confront ICE.

the list of Cuomo endorsers is actually a great way to identify people who need to be driven out of the Democratic Party as soon as possible

Sometimes editing is googling something really specific, like "bridesmaid dresses 1968". And sometimes it's googling something ridiculously broad like "purple flowers" because suddenly you can't remember a single one 🤪 I should add that lilac and iris are two of my favorite flowers 🤦‍♀️

Yes. I am right. I am seeing how Chat GPT is ruining students critical thinking and writing skills in real time. It is not the future. It is a tool designed to render the populace helpless, to make people doubt their innate intelligence, and to foster overreliance on technology.

FUCKING HELL I JUST KILLED A COCKROACH IN MY SILVERWARE DRAWER. Can't wait to wash every utensil I own 🫠

Genuine Question because I Do not understand… so if these men roll up in plain clothes and masks, grab a human being… even a child, and throw them in an unmarked vehicle I am just supposed to look the other way and say nothing ?? Ask Nothing ?

Yay for my home state! 🌲

Is this a Mad Libs? Because it reads like a Mad Libs.

Oh man, see also jobs in publishing, film, tv, or any other creative field. The amount of reading outside of work hours you’re expected to do, and always without compensation!

i just find this so bizarre. searching through texts and doing the reading for myself is how i actually think through ideas! trying to put together a sentence is how i figure out what i actually want to say!

This is an, um, interesting time to be editing historical fiction about the Vietnam war, I gotta say.

“No kidnappings” What a fucking time to be alive

Gov Hochul has big mom saying “if I have to come up here ONE MORE TIME” at a sleepover, and I mean that in the best possible way.

four of Brad Lander's political opponents praising him and speaking out in his defense shows that not only does this crew understand the stakes but also the incentive structure created for candidates by ranked choice voting is dope

NY Governor Kathy Hochul inside 26 Federal Plaza now, seeking answers from DHS/ICE about the arrest of NYC Comptroller Brad Lander, who is still being detained. @thecity.nyc "How long is this going to take, I don't think he has a long rap sheet," Hochul says to agents.

Truly this tells you everything you need to know about Cuomo (and why shouldn’t rank him!!)

Having a bit of a hard time with the concept that if a guy in a police uniform who has a police vehicle shows up I should lock the doors and call 911, but if a guy in a ski mask with an hGH gut appears to be kidnapping my neighbor, I shouldn’t ask who he is if I don’t want federal charges.

If New Yorkers are wondering who will fight back against Federal overreach, we have visible evidence today that Zohran Mamdani and Brad Lander are the candidates that you should rank 1 or 2 Lander literally resisted federal overreach and Mamdani showed up immediately to have his back Fuck Cuomo

My 5 year old said “Mom, the dirty laundry basket is really full again” this morning, so guess who is about to learn how to do laundry!

The Atlantic should be ashamed of publishing this nightmare piece from Liz Bruenig, whose callous dismissal of Adriana Smith's dignity is one of the most shocking things I've ever read.

1. Ranking Zohran #1 on my ballot! 2. Please, for the love of god, I want to see more (older) Democrat pols doing this!

Also, if you have never lived in or visited, it's hard to understand just how geographically LARGE LA is. And unlike other cities, downtown is not at all the center.

This was fascinating! Much like early Hollywood, women helped build early television and then were squeezed out. Also a good reminder of just how fucking awful McCarthyism was (not at all relevant to our own times!)

Writing snacks 😋 (I prefer Miller High Life, but the store was out) Daughter also left me a ninja turtle for good luck 💚

fyi NYC voters: if you made a mistake in your absentee ballot, you can call 866-868-3692 to receive a replacement, or go to pick it up in person at 345 Adams St, 4th floor

We need to build some real social stigma around being afraid of cities. You don't have to like them or live there, but a politics built this strongly around watching TV and going "ewww" is embarrassing, and people should be embarrassed by it. It's like "fear of werewolves" being your top issue.

the fact that people were told “today you are going to an elementary school to lie to teachers and kidnap kids” and didn’t immediately tell their bosses to go fuck themselves is all you need to know about why ICE should be dismantled

Everything feels terrible and scary right now. It's really easy not to make your art. But now is the most important time to do so. I'm especially grateful for #1000wordsofsummer this year.

The Flaming Waymos is a name in search of a cover band

Everything is a garbage fire *but* my cucumber plant has flowers! Come on, future pickles!

Look at one point I was an amateur submitting my writing somewhere and now it's my job and at no point have I used AI. You don't need this.

Cheated on my manuscript by writing 1022 words of a personal essay last night in half an hour! Having multiple projects on the go at once is really helpful (and the only kind of cheating I recommend) #1000wordsofsummer

Your friendly neighborhood editor here to remind you that “fondle” is a word that should *never* make an appearance in a sex scene 🥴

Seeing a lot of really long manuscripts in my inbox lately, like 100k-140k. That's quite long, unless you're writing fantasy (or your name is Ron Chernow). Get those metaphorical scissors out!

1045 words for #1000wordsofsummer today! First 500: great. Second 500: in headphones while the kid watched cartoons. Still got there in the end!

Sat down at my laptop last night *so* excited to start #1000wordsofsummer and found that I had written “finish” on a blank page in Scrivener, with no notes about what was supposed to go there. Helpful!! Still managed 1039 words, just not in that scene

Got my first canvasser for NYC mayor and it was for... Cuomo. LOL. You're out here in the rain, spending your one wild and precious life stumping for this trash human?? Girl, no.

Help me help an author: if a character is of Japanese descent, what shade lipstick is she wearing to the office?
