"They censored parts of an artwork about silencing indigenous and oppressed peoples... Sadly your upset feelings are not more important than the right of people to speak out against injustice, apartheid and genocide". First Dog on the Moon speaks Truth @australia.theguardian.com

I look forward to Antony Green entering his Lee Lin Chin/Margaret Pomeranz era where he just shows up every now and then to do snarky satirical comedy versions of his old serious work 😂

If you enjoy Australia's weird and wonderful micro-party landscape, you might also like my reviews of parties contesting WA's state election on 8 March. Yup I'm back with my Blatantly Partisan Party Reviews from a small-g green democratic socialist perspective Hope you find them useful/entertaining

If I sound calm, I was actually not calm.

This is terrible - Tim’s work provide is so important and improves access to Trove, helping people use it more!

Big news for PhD students and ECRs working in the Pacific History space; a $3000AUD grant is available to publish with the JPH peer-reviewed journal in 2026 #history #skystorians #Pacific #Oceania

That gator is rocking that hat!

The word 'symposium' comes from a Greek term for a drinking party, should you be looking for a truthful excuse to knock off early.

We were talking about GrayCris here, whose company motto seemed to be “profit by killing everybody and taking their stuff.”

It’s not just evil, at this point it’s cliche.

my brain is so broken that now I can’t stop thinking about Musk as like Kirkland Signature™️ Jafar, surrounded by squawking fanboys instead of parrots

The AHA strongly opposes Minister Jason Clare's call for the ARC to investigate Dr Randa Abdel-Fattah's grant. Such political interference, which the Minister promised to end, undermines the integrity of the ARC and its independent, peer-review processes.

I didn’t want to see helpless humans. I’d rather see smart ones rescuing each other.

You spend years platforming and agreeing with Nazis and the next thing you know people are not charitably interpreting a hand gesture

me trying to get invited to my grandpa's boathouse but then remembering i need to get pant recommendations from a younger cousin

Reminds me of the live wombat British sailors collected on Cape Barren Island in 1798. It ended up with Gov Hunter in Sydney. When it died, he sent it to the UK for display. Some years later, a taxidermist in Newcastle Upon Tyne stuffed it – in all senses – making it look like a possessed squirrel.

I just had someone say that you need to learn to tell your abusers to fuck off, and like…… Most of us understand that they try really hard to both pick people in bad situations and to isolate them and take away options, right?

A good thread - long but worth it, I think

I’ll tell this to any and every museum that ever asks how to roll out DEI initiatives. If you want to do that- if you really want to- then you need to STAND WITH YOUR STAFF when the trolls descend. Because they will. Every time. The institution needs to stand strong.

This exactly. Too often “tech guys” focused on tool building willfully misunderstand that what makes these platforms so powerful isn’t just the tech infrastructure but the huge groups of people & communities formed there over YEARS. This is why we need to focus on social sciences to understand tech.

This. Every fucking morning. I’d stop doing it, except I can’t.

I’m a fan of the beach in the evening on a hot summer day

While recognising it is correct to say ‘meteorologists predict’ I prefer to attribute weather forecasts to the intentionality of an anthropomorphic Weather. Today she doesn’t intend to rain, but might change her mind.

Happy New Year all! Report on 2025 so far - a bit sore, but there have been cat snuggles so all in all, excellent

“hole in the ozone layer” levels of erasure. my mom was a project manager who busted her ass for years to make sure IBM was ready for Y2K and completely succeeded, only for it to get turned into a late night joke. funny how the stories of mass collective action to avoid disaster rarely get told

DAMMIT NPR. I spent nine months upgrading over TEN THOUSAND desktops at a F500 client. The grand total was over SEVENTY THOUSAND applications upgraded. Y2K "didn't live up to the hype" because the industry busted ass to duct tape everything first.

Rewatching LEVERAGE from the beginning for the first time in a while (I know, I know) and I gotta say, I really wish more people had watched & really absorbed this show back in the day. Literally ever corporate grifter they take down was based on REAL SHIT that's only gotten worse in the years since

In my mother’s closet she used to keep a couple semi-burned gumleaves on cotton wool in a little plastic container. A strange keepsake. “Ash Wednesday, 1983”
