I worked 6 nights and went straight from the last shift to a day of scout camping. I felt like death. Last night I took a 2 hour nap, then slept 12 straight hours. I feel amazing.

My son is really into board games and card games and as a result, “taking damage” is a normal phrase in our house. When a need comes up at work, I feel like I take damage points anytime I don’t pitch in. Anytime I do help with work, I feel like I’m taking damage points at home.

I like to sleep and I'm not sorry about it. On days when I'm not on service, I don't set an alarm. On service days when I don't have to get there early, I don't get up early. You don't have to wake up at 5 to work hard and be a productive person.

Today I sat on my porch and the only sounds I heard were the bumblebees buzzing, the birds chirping, and the squirrels chattering and for me that’s worth more than most things in life.

When a resident asks me what they should do with the abx I like to give them options: 1. Be brave and stop them if you don’t think it’s an infection 2. Watch cultures for 48hrs and stop if negative 3. Find a source and commit to a course Any of the options can be reasonable in many ICU patients.
