Stumbled upon this from yonks ago. Owl identification made easy

Wonderful to watch this Water Rail foraging along the banks of the River Chew. Winter is the best season to spot this secretive bird.

A stroll along the River Chew. Birdsong now overlaps in the evening chorus. A Song Thrush serenades them all 🎶🐦‍⬛ Otters and a Beaver have been seen along this stretch of the river. Would be a dream to see either 💙

Heard my first Song Thrush of the year 🎶 Magical to hear glorious birdsong again #SignsOfSpring 💚

Did you know that Tawny Owls are less vocal on cloudy nights and when it is raining, but more active on nights when the moon is fuller? 🌕 🌧️ This was discovered from data collected for the BTO Tawny Owl Calling Survey. #Winterwatch #Ornithology #Birds

Heard my first singing Blackbird of 2025. It joined in with the Robins in the dusk chorus. 🎶🎶🐦‍⬛ Welcome back. Your fluting melodic notes filled my heart ❤️ 📷 Roger Wilmshurst

Golden sunset waves at The Cobb in Lyme Regis. I love it here especially in winter. Turnstones, Rock Pipets and wagtails meander along the harbour wall, stopping now and again to look out to sea.

I love midwinter. The warming sun, unfurling daylight, displaying Buzzards, clattering Jackdaws, emerging snowdrops, frosty cheeks, tree silhouettes at sunset, hooting owls, barking foxes, twinkly starry skies, and Orion ✨

Tawny Owls are quiet tonight as the snow falls in #Bath. The trees in my local park look beautiful with their shadowy branches backlit by the snowy sky. I felt like I was the only one there until I could smell a fox sitting under a hedgerow 🤍🦊

Welcoming in the New Year with this gorgeous Little Owl print by @hazela.bsky.social 🦉❤️ Looking forward to working on my Lights Out for Nature project in 2025 to help encourage more dark spaces for nature.✨ 🦉 🦊 🦇

Trees in #Bath are decorated with beautiful little birds. I love watching Pied Wagtails gather to roost at dusk in winter. Wishing you a merry festive time 🐦‍⬛ 💚

Lights Out for Birds ✨🐦‍⬛ Artificial light at night kills over a billion migratory birds each year. Light pollution is reversible and we can all make a difference now. Find out more in my article on light pollution and birds in this month’s Birdwatch @birdguides.bsky.social

Grey Wagtail pottering around on Lyme Regis’s pavements. Wagtail is a perfect name for these charming little birds 💛🩶

Tawny Owl Time 🦉🎶 I love walking amongst winter trees looking for owls at dusk. A top tip is to follow their courtship calls then look up. Tawny Owls can make lots of different vocalisations ➡️ soundapproach.co.uk/species/tawn...

7th International Little Owl Symposium will be held in Vic, Catalonia in March 2025 🦉 Come to share fieldwork, research and strategies from all over Europe to help conserve the declining Little Owl. Registration is open ⬇️ 📷 Andy Rouse

Incoming. Freshly arrived Short-eared Owl just prior to flopping down behind a large boulder on the SMI foreshore this morning. #UKbirding. #birdingNorthEast

Blakiston’s fish owls are so large that, as adults, they don’t really have natural predators. I’m aware of only one case of predation, when a Eurasian lynx surprised one along a riverbank while it was concentrating on the water & watching for fish 1/4 🌍🦉

Loved recording a @goldengrenadesco.bsky.social podcast episode with @yolobirder.bsky.social on my five favourite birds and why I love them. Listen here ➡️ goldengrenades.com/podcast/epis... 🦅🦉🐦‍⬛
