another app made using #Quarto live + #Observable JS -- this time finding the best of line of fit by visual inspection

Using #Observable JS + #Quarto to create an app to demonstrate the central limit theorem from sampling from uniform [0,1] distribution repeatedly and plotting the empirical mean distribution

Reworking my intro to stats with R materials using #quarto live and it's sooo good! Interactive R code + reactive visualisation right in my slides πŸ’―

Can’t stress enough about having some code repository (GitHub etc) especially if you are early career and/or looking for a job. If the selection criteria asks for scientific programming skills, everyone claims they can code and use good practice. Show some evidence by providing a link to GitHub etc

This πŸ‘‡. Specifically, for people in the quantitative sciences, I recommend: - Have a well-tended ORCID - GitHub/GitLab repository with some of your research outputs - Personal webpage (e.g. quarto) on a static hosting service such as GitHub/GitLab Pages, Netlify, Posit Connect, ...

Yikes. What a week to be in Perth πŸ₯΅

Question for PhD/grad students and postdocs ... what professional development courses would you like to have been offered when you started your PhD/grad program? What skills (not technical) would have been valuable in helping you through your PhD journey and beyond?

I wrote this post to give folks in my centre a broad overview of switching from #Stata to #rstats and some examples of code equivalents. Hopefully it's helpful to others too! benharrap.com/post/2025-01...

If you are a researcher or academic, please make it easy to find your contact details! This is an old talk of mine for the WA Young Stats Event but the advice still holds (just replace twitter with bsky or mastodon). πŸ‘©β€πŸ’» "What every young statistician should know" emitanaka.org/slides/YSW2020
