It's #Wonderblocks week 6 & the final 5 episodes of series 1 have been released. This week is all about iteration. Again helps out Stop & Go making indefinite & definite loops. They get Toad's rail cart to the station, to grow a beanstalk, tinker with patterns to decorate a castle & make ice creams.

Teaching till late, so missed the photo op with my brilliant & accomplished colleagues & friends. I spoke about the importance of critical digital literacy in an Artificially Intelligent world at this important conference organised by Dr Rhiannon Love. www.hampshirechronicle.co.uk/news/2494261...

Thanks @wearebcs.bsky.social and @juliaadamson.bsky.social for inviting me to the Barefoot 10th Birthday celebrations. Such a wonderful resource managed by an awesome team and delivered by passionate volunteers who go above and beyond.👏Happy birthday 🎂 #TeamCompSci #CASChat

Henry and his colleagues are doing amazing work in primary computing. We need children to be more digitally literate and to develop understanding of the potential uses of, benefits and limitations of AI. You might want to check this out. #caschat #AI #Primary #compsci #criticaldigitalliteracy

Been really enjoying this with my children at home… can’t wait to plan to use it in EYFS/KS1 at school! #Wonderblocks is amazing!

Having lived in Japan that has been battling for some time with falling birthrates, low migration and an aging population, I think it might be wise for some of us in Europe to learn from their experience. www.theguardian.com/world/ng-int...

In #Wonderblocks this week Stop & Go have to think logically to solve a mystery. They persevere & work step by step to help Frog debug a problem. The final episode this week introduces us to Again, a character that helps us repeat. #compsci #CASChat #EYFS www.bbc.co.uk/cbeebies/sho...

I think this is great - I only wish my boys were younger to give me an excuse to watch it! My wife is an #EYFS teacher so I will share this blog with her. #teamcompsci #uked

To find out a bit more about how Wonderblocks links to the EYFS framework and the Computing curriculum, read my blog post for Computing At School (CAS). www.computingatschool.org.uk/forum-news-b... Thanks for the pictures and examples @computingdawn.bsky.social

As a teacher educator, I frankly find it bewildering that this isn't already happening. Key foci threaded throughout our teacher education programmes are inclusion and child development. How can teachers be educated for such an important job without this. news.sky.com/story/all-te...

Week 4 of #Wonderblocks! This week we get creative, sequence & tinker. We learn to decompose big problems, breaking them into smaller parts. You'll love the musical episode, Sounds Like A Plan, where we celebrate Cow's birthday throwing a great big party! www.bbc.co.uk/cbeebies/sho...

Fantastic!

Really excited today to be talking at the Edusafe conference today

Last week on #Wonderblocks we met important characters including Go & Stop & we learned how Do blocks make things happen. This week we're learning more about pattern & sequence. Five more episodes arrived on iPlayer today. www.bbc.co.uk/cbeebies/sho... @computingatschool.bsky.social

Had a fantastic day at #BETT2025! It was great to catch up with @eatsleepictrepeat.bsky.social @philwickins.bsky.social @ict-links.bsky.social @milesberry.net @emmagoto.bsky.social Rebecca Franks, TraceyGardner Eliot Williams.

Loved #Wonderblocks this morning on #cbeebies. Well done Tom Box of Blue Zoo, Joe Elliot of Alphablocks Ltd & Simon Taylor director & thanks for letting me be education consultant! Please do watch & share it with young children to spread the love of problem solving & computational thinking! #caschat

Wonderblocks is a new CBeebies programme, released on Jan 20th, that aims to develop children's early computational thinking skills & problem solving. I'm very proud to have been involved. @compscitsui.bsky.social @milesberry.net @computingatschool.bsky.social www.bbc.co.uk/mediacentre/...

Seriously not sure why we have a recruitment and retention crisis. According to Metro 'newspaper' (must be true then) the average teacher works just 28 hours a week and earns £40,560. Headteachers are even better off working just 30 hours for £62,920! metro.co.uk/2024/12/30/u...

For those interested in P4C, access Lipman's curriculum materials made freely available by the Institute for the Advancement of Philosophy for Children at Montclair State University here - digitalcommons.montclair.edu/iapc_curricu...

www.theguardian.com/technology/2... A nice sobering thought to end the year. Geoffrey Hinton has upped his prediction of the end of humanity due to AI in the next 3 decades from 10% to the rather vague but concerning 10-20%. A stark reminder of the need for ethical regulation?

This seems very concerning. In this country there seems to be ongoing racism against GRT communities and surely this treatment is a huge safeguarding risk for children and young people. www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2024...
