I really am hoping that NWS Seattle is doing fine. They have not posted since6-7am yesterday morning. They normally post every single day.I find it concerning after mass layoffs for NOAA and NWS locations. This is extremely bad as it makes safety from weather so much harder #wawx

Beautiful painted cirrus clouds at sunset tonight! Drone shot from Federal Way, looking west toward Tacoma, with the Olympic Mountains in the background. Gorgeous ending to a beautiful day in the #PNW! #wawx #sunset

😎☀️ What a beautiful day across Western WA, with highs reaching the upper 50s to upper 60s! Felt like springtime!! #wawx

Felt that one! #waquakes

Gonna be a beautiful day - Sunrise Time Lapse. youtu.be/SypXVIHYA04

A brief beautiful show from lady Aurora last night.

Time lapse of last nights brief Aurora show.

Colorado's Rep Brittany Pettersen (D) flew cross-country with her one-month-old to vote against the GOP budget tonight. Dems ended up one vote short. Pettersen was part of an unsuccessful bipartisan push to allow new mothers to vote remotely. #copolitics

Nice cirrus cloud sunset as seen from my drone over Federal Way, looking west toward Tacoma! #wawx #pnw

Big lenticulars this evening over both Mt. Rainier and the Olympics!! Here’s some drone shots from Federal Way! (Wish the lennies lit up more at sunset, but oh well!) #wawx #pnw #lenticularclouds

For the first time in months, it’s 60 degrees in Seattle! 👏

I love living here #wawx #seattle

The Seattle Waterfront and Olympic Mountains are showing off today! #wawx

60s in February?!?! Yes, you read that right! Wednesday and Thursday are going to reach the upper 50s to low 60s across Western WA, with some places even in the mid 60s! Enjoy the warmer weather, everyone!! #wawx

I90/SR18 station recorded 47 mph gust this am Our 9th windstorm (8 of 9 E winds) with a gust >=40 mph this fall/winter season, par for the course, but our 4th major power disruption which I believe is on the high side. First storm having southerly winds that strong this season.

How Cold was it in DeadHorse Alaska this morning? It's so cold that the dew point DOES NOT MATTER. At -35C the air is so dry that dew point is not recorded! PASC 252153Z 24007KT 10SM FEW003 M34/M37 A3001 PASC 252053Z 24008KT 7SM FEW001 M35/ A3001

River running high with floodwaters today! This river is normally crystal clear, but extensive clearcutting upstream has resulted in runoff filling the water with sediment. There are basic forest practices reforms which could prevent this pollution of our salmon-bearing streams. #wawx

🚨Convergence Zone Developing 🚨 Impacts - Moderate Rain - Isolated Heavy - Slight increase in winds in stronger parts of the CZ Actions - Keep your distance when driving in rain - Stay aware when driving in bad weather - Keep an eye out for small falling debris from trees #wawx

A few minutes ago, King County Budget Director Dwight Dively told the county council that some promised federal dollars continue to come in as expected, including a $50M grant to the climate office last week. But the technical infrastructure to deliver other promised funds is "just...gone."

This mornings Wind Storm was the #2 Windstorm All-Time at my current location covering 13 years! SPI is based on a Wind Force Calculation, top 20 storms of 115 during this period (2012-2025) shown. #wawx #wind

The Aurora Bridge was closed earlier this morning in both directions due to a suspected transformer fire #wawx

More trees coming down and the power is threatening to go out as these winds continue to blow through #wawx

Some tree damage in the foothills this AM - we knew this one was going to go but still a big one and snapped into multiple pieces! #wawx

Reports of a tree blocking 45th at Eastern/1st in Seattle #wawx

Portland-Bellingham gradient got up to +14.3 mb this morning -- that's the highest I remember it so far this year. Usually around a +12-13 is what I'd say is a "usual" wind storm so this achieved a few extra bonus points. (Nowhere near historic tho)

Peak gusts I've found: 88 mph Cape Disappointment 88 mph Clatsop Spit (near Astoria), OR 76 mph Astoria Megler Bridge 70 mph Hoquiam 61 mph Whidbey NAS Station 60 mph Seattle/Boeing Field 59 mph Tacoma Narrows / Gig Harbor 56 mph Westport 55 mph Bellevue 52 mph Seattle/ Sea-Tac 52 mph Everett #wawx

Some school districts in the #Seattle area are running on a two hour delay this morning due to blocked roads from damage caused by last night's wind storm. #WAwx #weather

7:19am - More than 157k without power across Washington. Seattle City Light reporting 24k+ outages in Seattle and PSE reporting 103k+ outages. Winds are still gusting up to ~40mph across the Puget Sound region #wawx

Power outages really spiked overnight in Washington (state) after high winds -- from ~40k to ~170k this AM. #wawx

Not out of woods yet. Peak gust potential remains through ~ noon. We've had max gust 37 mph at I90/SR18 xchange, and same out at ext 32 in North Bend, thus far relatively unscathed Out west, Boeing Field clocked a 60 mph gust. Outage map says it all re: strongest winds

Midnight Update: Our storm is weakening and moving inland. Winds have gusted 50-70 mph along the coast, with gusts of 40-55 mph possible for the lowlands through 8-10 AM. Additionally, large waves of 25-30 feet will bring dangerous conditions to the coast. #wawx

Peak Gusts since 12 AM (written 3:15 AM): Cape Disappointment: 88 mph Hoquiam: 64 mph NAS Whidbey: 61 mph Boeing Field: 60 mph Tacoma Narrows: 56 mph Westport: 56 mph SeaTac Airport: 52 mph Olympia: 52 mph Paine Field: 52 mph Hansville: 50 mph #wawx

5:15 AM: Power outages are mounting across Western WA, with @PSETalk reporting 109.5K out, particularly bad across Bainbridge & Vashon Islands, the Kitsap Peninsula, areas near SeaTac, and Olympia. @SEACityLight reporting 28K out across the city. Winds gusting 40-60 mph. #wawx

PSE has increased to 8.5K customers without power as of 11:37pm. That number will continue to rise as winds ramp up overnight. #wawx

A great resource for identifying reported outages: poweroutage.us/area/state/w... Keep in mind not all PUDs report their outage numbers in real time. Grays Harbor, for example, does not but they do have a notice on their website about current outages (see earlier post). #wawx

From Grays Harbor PUD’s website: “Power is out to roughly 5300 customers from Newskah Rd, and along St Rt 105 to Westport, Westhaven, Grayland, and Tokeland. There is no estimated time of restoration.” #wawx

11:26pm: More than 37k customers across Western WA are without power: • ~5,300 Grays Harbor Co. • ~4,400 Clark Co. • ~4,900 Lewis Co. • ~2,700 Mason Co. • ~2,800 Gig Harbor, Key Peninsula & Fox Island • ~6,700 PSE customers • ~2,500 Seattle City Light Customers • ~7,900 Snohomish Co #wawx

She’s a beast! #WAWX
