🚨 The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) dropped five major legal cases, including a major lawsuit against Capital One. This is a change in direction from CFPB's aggressive stance in recent years. Here's what happened.

My grandma instilled in me a hatred of the rich (she grew up and lived in a town filled with the summer mansions of Chicago’s wealthy), she would hate this Rich People First horseshit.

it seems like some people are overusing (or incorrectly using) progressive tense. a cbs reporter said: "in those town halls people are wanting to know..." what is this? what's going on? i only took one semester of linguistics in undergrad

Because I’ve got time, I’m going to highlight any district with over 3% of their residents employed by the federal government and their representatives. Maybe you live there. Maybe your family does. You don’t want higher unemployment in your area. Let’s go!

Look, the most important pushback happening to defend higher ed right now is coming from AAUP and other unions. Not management. Not boards. Not donors. Join. If you don’t have a chapter, start one. If you’re Nevada faculty anywhere in NSHE join @nvfa.bsky.social, join the fight.

Minnesota is moody

The concentration of wealth in the hands of an elite few isn't just bad for our economy. It's corrosive to our democracy. When the wealthy and well-connected control our political system, the American people don't have a voice. The result is demagoguery and corruption.

Today at the volunteer-staffed tax clinic for Minnesota families earning less than $70k…all the customers vocalized anger about Trump to one another. Mad about researchers, mad about the four star general, mad about cuts to park rangers. Just mad.

Somebody at my recycling center is getting exasperated.

If you are in higher ed, it’s easy to join the AAUP!

Editor Commentary: Who does this to other people? To doctors, nurses, farmers, teachers, professors, scientists, veterans, working families, people with disabilities, children with special needs, poor people? What twisted, unnatural men.

Great coverage of our campaign to secure collective bargaining rights for faculty & librarians of in MD's universities! Del. Foley: "If you want to consider yourself to be a fearless university...then what are you afraid of when it comes to collective bargaining?" dbknews.com/2025/02/20/u...

Just a gut punch of a piece from NPR that will break your human heart (take a listen) www.npr.org/2025/02/20/g...

Proud of my home state: TITS OUT, AGAINST ALL KINGS

Ppl at work 8 years ago: “huh, this [insert thing] is a little wonky” Ppl at work 4 years ago: “this [insert thing] is messed up” Ppl at work today: “this [insert thing] is horseshit”

Absolutely BONKERS announcement from ProQuest/Clarivate this morning. Our entire acquisitions strategy is being upended with this change. Fewer choices for content providers, fewer options for digital ownership, further erosion of the first sale doctrine, and MONOPOLIES ARE BAD FOR LIBRARIES!!!

Yesterday I got to see a rotating @aupresses.bsky.social book exhibit on display at @uminnpress.bsky.social...which means I've added Walt Whitman's New Orleans to my to-read pile! lsupress.org/978080717682...

We’re only one step away from a dude in a trenchcoat approaching you in an alley and whispering “I got eggs.”

A time traveler would be so impressed with my electric toothbrush, but so disappointed in how slow it charges.

Printing this to remind myself that we can find joy in solidarity. Fear and isolation won’t help in this moment. #lettterpress

Federal employee terminations will cause widespread economic damage even beyond the hardships for specific employees How many federal workers live in your state or county or congressional district? I made an little interactive site to tell you economic.github.io/federal_work...

Light a candle tonight for Minnesotan Sam Nordquist. Sam was killed out of state by violent transphobes. His death hurts all of us and our world is worse off without him. www.mprnews.org/story/2025/0...

The IRS was a simple test for DOGE: was it really interested in efficiency and state capacity? If so, you support the tax enforcement, the biggest ROI in govt. Or did it want to minimize parts of the state that bothered billionaires? We have our answer. open.substack.com/pub/donmoyni...

If the White House press corps doesn't walk out in solidarity for the AP they're not gonna do it for anyone.

I’ve lived the best life because I borrowed money from the US federal government to attend a university where I read Elizabeth Bishop and used my work study earnings to buy clove cigarettes

looking back, AOL had it right. 30 hours of internet per month was the right amount.

damn. I think Tina Smith has been a hell of a senator for Minnesota.

A couple of Christmases ago my niece and nephew were talking about trending slang (rizz, simp, etc) and my dad added: “And GERD!”

Today, the AAUP released a new statement on Institutional Neutrality which reaffirms that institutional neutrality is neither a necessary condition for academic freedom nor categorically incompatible with it. 🧵 www.aaup.org/report/insti...
