Really disturbed by an ad I've just seen for a 'service' promising a pathway to publishing run by someone whose website is littered with spelling errors. The books on their site have AI covers and blurbs, maybe the content too, who knows. I am not against indie publishing but this grift is not cool.

In January 2021, during the third national lockdown, I pulled into this deserted pub car park to turn the van round and found a lamppost and a bin engaged in lively conversation while they thought no one was looking. Incredible.

Excited to share that my story THE GHOSTS OF HOLLY HALL is being launched this Friday with Fiction Express! Every week, readers will vote for where they want the story to go next. And isn't the cover great? My MC, Lauren, has mild cerebral palsy like I do – I'm thrilled this has been represented!

Van day. The Pointy One approves. 😁🙌🏻🚐❤️ #VanLife

Been a bit quiet on here because of life/work stuff, but popping up to wish everyone a Merry Christmas/holiday season and a Happy New Year! Auburn has already been at the gin, as you can see… 😂

It's #BookSky #BookAdvent Day 4! Today I'm sharing the 10th anniversary edition of STARRING KITTY by @keris.bsky.social, a heartwarming LGBT+ teenage romance about Kitty, who is falling for Dylan, the girl with the purpley-red hair…but Dylan wants to be more than Kitty's secret. What will Kitty do?

Today involved getting up early to do some writing (yay!) but also getting a MASSIVE filling redone and the left half of my face being completely numb for 4 hours afterwards (boo). I'm quite tired now...

Reposting for the evening (or perhaps it's morning where you are, or somewhere in between!) crowd. A stunning collection from a brilliant poet that's well worth a read. 🖤 #BookSky #BookAdvent

😂 😂 😂

@nikkisheehan.bsky.social Thank you for the repost yesterday, lovely x

@jarnopp.bsky.social Thank you for the repost! 😊

#BookSky #BookAdvent Day 3! Here is the wonderful SURRENDER, a poetry collection by the equally wonderful Cathy Grindrod, which explores how we connect and disconnect with the past, place, work, nature, the animal world and ultimately, with others. Available from @fiveleavesbooks.bsky.social 🍃📚

I'm thrilled to see WICKED MARIGOLD on this list of best middle grade novels of 2024 from Imagination Soup! There are lots of great titles here for your young (and not-so-young) readers: imaginationsoup.net/best-middle-... @imaginationsoup.bsky.social #kidlit #mglit

For day 2 of my #BookSky #BookAdvent I'm sharing the twisty & brilliant DARK ISLAND by @spacemandan13.bsky.social! Midwinter in Orkney. ND journalist Freya has returned to her childhood home, only for her life to be turned upside down when human remains are uncovered & dark secrets are revealed… ☠️

Rather than the town square, treat BlueSky like your favourite bar, pub or community. Just like you would avoid or silence snarky, argumentative fascist baiters, avoid them here. Block and don’t engage. Move on to the next cool interesting person. The trolls will eventually leave. Cheers!

Happy December, Bluesky! Every day this month I'm going to try and share a book (fic, non-fic, poetry) I love. A kind of #BookAdvent, if you will.🎄📚 First up: @sheenawriter.bsky.social's MRS HART'S MARRIAGE BUREAU – a gentle, intelligent inter-war romantic comedy, perfect for fans of Dear Mrs Bird.

So much WTAF here. Mind you, it's the Daily Heil, so is anyone surprised? (And just for the record, my husband and I are both not-secretly-at-all AuDHD and sometimes struggle to "read the room", and yet we both find it *incredibly* easy not to be inappropriate or creepy. Wild, huh! 🙃)

@sgwolfeauthor.bsky.social Thank you muchly for the repost! 😊

I got horribly tangled up with my WIP's plot yesterday (the "messy middle" is my nemesis!) but thanks to brilliant pals @sheenawriter.bsky.social and @rachelwardbooks.bsky.social it's all sorted now. Just shows how important it is to find like-minded writer friends – thank you, ladies! 🥰

So we can go public now - @rozc.bsky.social and I will be accepting novella submissions for @wtpress.bsky.social early next year. And congrats to @queex.bsky.social @bethkesh.bsky.social @dergullen.bsky.social and Juliet Kemp!

Like my mentor #DavidNash, I make work with long timespans: It’s also the art I’m most drawn to… If that speaks to you too, here’s a starter pack of others engaged in serious noticing - through repetition, return, time series & other forms of slow art… go.bsky.app/V6j8hdS

Sounding the "both my books are less than a fancy coffee on Kindle right now" klaxon… in BEFORE THE DAWN, Ruby, who longs to escape Devon & her controlling father, meets American soldier Sam & they plan a future together. But then, on June 6, 1944, Sam's battalion sets off for Omaha beach… 1/3

This is crucial work to be carried out long-term, thanks again to CLPE. It's disappointing to see the drop in overall presence of racially minoritised characters - but I'm shocked by the *halving* of books with racially minoritised main characters.

Woo-hoo! @orkneylibrary.bsky.social is on Bluesky! Great to see you (and your balls) here.

The good news is that I'm able to take a few months to write and do more freelance work (in other words, hire me please!). vikkipatisauthor.com/services/

This. Absolutely.

If I had to distill my perspective on neurodiversity, it would boil down to the notion that minds that function differently need to supported on the basis of how they work, not on the basis of how the "normal" or "average" mind works

The greyhound farts are keeping me warm too. 🤢😂 #AmWriting #VanLife
