BREAKING: The Interior Dept just used a fake “energy emergency” to greenlight gas and mining projects on public lands. It’s a lie. There is no energy emergency. This is a giveaway to big oil.

Reminder: the ONLY way to stop this is to transition away from fossil fuels

So I guess Trump *isn't* going to yank nonprofit status from a bunch of green groups on Earth Day? Or at least, that's what they're saying as of this precise moment.

Sometimes I wonder “why am I so tired” and then I realize I wrote this 8 years ago

Earth day is supposed to be a riot newrepublic.com/article/1421...

Say it with me again: “Make America healthy again” is a scam

I've mostly stopped doing fact-checks of Trump claims about climate change, b/c most of them are so tired and obviously stupid. But this latest claim felt new—and potentially potent for parents of young kids. So I dove into the science of climate anxiety in children:

“Yes, they’re anxious. But they’re ignoring the cause of that anxiety, which is the failure of governments to act.”

Climate research doesn't fuel climate anxiety. Failure to act on climate change does. Canceling climate research will undoubtedly fuel climate anxiety among young people as well as adults. Great article here. 🔥

Democrats really need to start accusing Republicans of destroying children's mental health by not doing anything about climate change. Because that's exactly what the science says they're doing.

After weekend 1 of Coachella saw near-record-breaking heat and water lines 30+ minutes long, I'm thinking about why Massive Attack turned down performing this year. “It’s in Palm Springs. It’s a golf resort built on a desert, run on a sprinkler system, using public water supplies. Mental."

*looks directly at camera*

I gotta say, “women are going to space” sounds a lot nicer than “the ultra rich are taking hyper-polluting joyrides to space while the planet descends into climate chaos”

Teaching kids about climate change is not what causes climate anxiety. *Not doing anything about climate change* is what causes climate anxiety. www.nytimes.com/2025/04/09/c...

Every time I talk to a journalism class, someone inevitably asks me how to start a career on Substack. And every time my advice is…. please do not start your career on Substack.

An update on this, feat @keshaunpearson.bsky.social "I’m here because today we’ve learned that xAI is using 35 methane gas burning turbines.....they have submitted a permit to our Shelby county health department for 15, yet they are using double that amount with no permit"

Morgan Stanley analysts told investor clients that they believe the world is hurtling toward one of the most dangerous, terrifying global warming scenarios imaginable. Then they were like… this is gonna be GREAT for air conditioning stocks

Writing this felt like writing a John Oliver episode except not very funny heated.world/p/predicting...

Building a mass movement (instead of a subculture) will require a lot of cringe, so get comfortable with it

yeah sure let’s just sunset all energy and environment regulation. like, all of it. sure. why not at this point? what could possibly go wrong? (that’s what this new EO claims to do)

I love talking to journalism students!! I know I’m supposed to inspire them but they inspire me just as much (probably more tbh)

The stupid coup's stupid energy policy--coal is just a dirty, expensive, moribund way to make electricity, and it's also some kind of symbolic Ye Mannehood of Olde stuff that the right gets all sentimental about, while screwing over actual coal miners.

Re-upping this in light of Trump's new executive order to bring back coal heated.world/p/make-ameri...

trump’s pick to run the nation’s energy data agency — the eia —works for a think tank that denies the existence of an energy transition my latest for @heatmap.news #greensky #climatesky

The worst thing the federal government has done to unions in my lifetime happened last night. The second worst thing was three weeks ago. The labor movement will either protect ourselves right now or be smashed. That's all there is to it. www.hamiltonnolan.com/p/they-are-g...

I can’t stop thinking about this framing when it comes to climate. And I don’t mean “doom” as in “I feel badly about this situation,” but as in “it’s too late.” Someone responded to my post about the impact of climate activism yesterday calling it hopium. Two people who follow me liked it.

The reason you can tell it’s AI is because Pikachu would be on the side of the fascist military because he knows nothing aside from practicing conformity to perpetuate existing systems unlike Meowth who challenges social conventions and the role of Pokémon in human society

I've been noting how storage is the fossil fuel killer for a while now. I believe I got that language from something @gregor.us wrote back in the day. The fossil fuel industry knows it and that is why they are trying to kill storage projects. They're too late. Investors figured it out.

NEW: A secret kill list of clean energy project grants is circulating through the energy department I obtained the latest version, which includes six projects “seen as vital for turning variable wind and solar production into a reliable, round-the-clock power source” heated.world/p/secret-ene...

Important context from #ChrisHayes:

“Immigration officials on Tuesday morning arrested 25-year-old union farmworker activist Alfredo “Lelo” Juarez … Juarez, who is a member of the Indigenous Mexican Mixteco community, has organized on behalf of farmworker rights in Washington state since he was 14 years old”

Republicans are always saying "solar and wind can never compete with fossil fuels" But that's because they're MAKING SURE they can't heated.world/p/secret-ene...

big scoop: the bureau of land management says it has lifted the federal freeze on solar permitting note i have no evidence this is true other than their words (so far) cc @heatmap.news heatmap.news/plus/trump-s...

If the feedstock for “sustainable” aviation fuel comes from food crops, as is allowed in the US, emissions relative to fossil fuels will *increase* because of the high land requirements & resulting deforestation. Achieving US 2050 SAF target via corn ethanol would require *120%* of US corn land.
