This event happening today with us at CDP from 3-4 pm UK time. This is a hybrid, open event, so join us from afar or at Leeds if you are interested to learn more about Cláudia's work on "Parliamentary Storytelling in Brazil and in the UK".

Speaking of null results, have a look at this outstanding study by @nicolaiberk.bsky.social, just out with us at Political Communication, where he shows with exemplary rigor how BILD's sudden shift towards framing immigration as related to crime had zero effect on readers' attitudes on immigration.

Our CDP 2024/25 Alice Bacon Lecture with broadcaster and journalist Naga Munchetty will happen tonight! Few tickets left, registration info below. If you're in Leeds, make sure to drop by.

This is an interesting study on the relationship between economic inequality and democratic erosion: www.pnas.org/doi/10.1073/... Overall, certainly something worth pondering.

I have a big ask. My 9yo son is autistic and he’s been raising a betta fish he named Kevin. Yesterday He asked if he could “share a photo of Kevin with the whole world“. I don’t know if this will work, but a dad’s gotta try. Like and share if that’s your thing. Kevin says hi! 🐟👋

Suggestive evidence the editors at @naturehumbehav.bsky.social read my BSKY posts. (Also: Good move. Requiring research-design info like @aecoppock.bsky.social suggests would've been even better though.) bsky.app/profile/emri...

Congratulations to the #ica25 reviewer who managed to write the most generic and unhelpful-in-the-most-words review I have ever had the pleasure of reading. Kids, don't write reviews like that.

Having settled here, I am 're-'posting important study we produced. 𝗔 𝗛𝗶𝗱𝗱𝗲𝗻 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗨𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘁𝘆 • 73 teams tested same hypothesis w same data • Outcomes varied, each workflow unique • Attempt to explain outcomes from decisions, no easy answer www.pnas.org/doi/10.1073/... 🧪

I have long thought that "Career Advice" panels are a key catalyst of much that is wrong with the hyper-competitive academic system. Starry-eyed junior colleagues go in fascinated by substantive Qs & come out seeing science as a game in which the goal is to publish n=XYZ articles in journals ABC.

I'm a climate scientist who studies how it affects the people, places and things we love, and how our choices today will determine our future. I curate a list + feed of nearly 2,000 scientists who study climate, and I have some great starter packs too. Check them out! bsky.app/profile/did:...

I quit using twitter (12K followers) almost a year ago. My art sales have declined by +90%. It's been devastating. I absolutely don't blame artists who still post there. But if Bluesky wants to build communities, it needs to support (ie: share posts and buy stuff) & encourage artists who are here.

**POLCOMM PUBLICATION FRIDAY** This week’s PolComm spotlight is dedicated to highlighting and celebrating @prowag.bsky.social’s 8-year tenure as editor of @PolcommJournal’s The Forum! Read his farewell note & personal reflections here: www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.... 🧵⤵️

The type of abstract that goes something like "using [insert five/six/seven-digit N] cases ... we find that X links to Y" needs to ... uhm ... go away. Give us your effect size estimate!

Now out with final page numbers: Our six-country study showing how public outrage and recognition are fairly stable across political systems but are more salient in divided than homogeneous societies. More here (Open Access): doi.org/10.1177/1940...

Earlier this month the CDP hosted Dame Sharon White, Chair of the John Lewis Partnership, as she delivered our annual Alice Bacon lecture. We celebrated the pioneering achievements of women and the audience was moved by Dame Sharon's story. Read more: essl.leeds.ac.uk/politics/new...

I haven't read this yet, but this kind of guidance is much needed. As a reviewer/reader I have frequently been appalled at how deviations have been handled in papers (usually not mentioned at all). Preregistration is worthless without full transparency.

1st post simply to draw your attention to this great study, recently out with us at PolComm, in which Xiaoya Jiang et al. show how online discourses are fractured today: Partisans on an issue talk about diff issue aspects, diff related events, and at diff times. www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10....
