Coming around to the view that a certain kind of narcissist simply needs Musk to be a genius rather than a fraud, because they want to believe there’s a hereditary Brahmin class of accomplished, beautiful minds—and that they’re a part of that class.

Not surprisingly, the US mineral "deal" contains no security guarantees for Ukraine & the terms are incredibly harsh, with Ukraine supposed to contribute to the fund until it reaches $500 billion US (Ukraine's actual revenues in 2024? $1.1 billion) kyivindependent.com/us-mineral-d...

Dear OPM FOIA staff - Remember to preserve all of these email responses, as we will be submitting FOIA requests for this consolidated compilation of information on what the entire federal government did last week. Thx - FOIA community

Bingo.

FFS New York Times. They’re not *his generals. Unbelievable

“That is why Trumpists are so focused on “ending DEI” in the federal workforce. They see anti-discrimination and inclusion as a ladder of upward mobility for people they do not believe should have one.”

Musk took over the US government with graft and is using it—in combination with his space launch firm—to exploit an allied country that’s suffering under Russian invasion for its mineral rights. The scheme is so imperiously evil I feel like audiences wouldn’t find it believable in a Bond villain.

"Washington reviewed the Ukrainian proposed resolution and 'demanded to make some changes to make it weaker,' including “pro-Russian” language in the document. Then Washington proposed a new resolution and demanded Kyiv withdraw its version..." www.washingtonpost.com/world/2025/0...

Between this and Vanderbilt it sure looks like the crusade against higher education is going to hobble research for decades to come. American higher education is a global achievement, one of our greatest engines of innovation and prosperity. And it’s being ripped down by vandals.

Looks like Trump has fired Gen CQ Brown, chairman of the joint chiefs of staff.

We’re creating a list of deals and special offers for District residents impacted by the recent federal layoffs — from discounted drinks to free headshots and career coaching. Help us build this community resource by adding to the list, here: airtable.com/appl7lWf605d...

A source recently pointed out to me that for people who have a double-digit number of billions of dollars, economic crashes are great. Limited impact on their life, and they buy up assets at a discount.

Come for the Kellogg tea, stay for the Colby cheese

In case you’re wondering what those 8% “cuts” at DoD are going to be used for.

I’ve gotten so many of these lately!

DOGE's job cuts at CDC "eliminated 20 percent of the federal workers responsible for certifying 9/11-related illnesses." "That means thousands of firefighters, police officers, construction workers, and volunteers could see delays or denials in their care."

In a world where things mattered & one of our two parties had not fully collapsed into authoritarianism, it would be a presidency-ending scandal that 🇩🇪 needed to reconsider its nuclear strategy while 🇷🇺 occupies 🇺🇦, & our closest NATO allies were strategizing about how to provide security without us:

March 4.

What’s happening is a generational wound

The move against Franchetti and her team who were just beginning to get a grip on structural problems fueling the US Navy's growing crisis is an act of strategic self-sabotage

Welcome to oligarchy

The IRS began to terminate thousands of employees, disrupting the agency when tax season is in full swing

Unfortunately firings have continued at the National Nuclear Safety Administration. I’ve been contacted by an NNSA worker who was fired, then told her termination was paused, then told she was fired again. She says there were numerous others at NNSA treated the same way. These people keep us safe.

Real live shakedown

You never imagine the descent into despotism being quite this embarrassing, you know? You expect liberal democracy to fall to a Palpatine, not Biff Tannen.

Archaeologists have discovered the tomb of an ancient Egyptian pharaoh, the first such find since King Tutankhamun’s resting place was unearthed in 1922, Egyptian officials announced this week.

The Confederacy thought that. Nazi Germany and Imperial Japan did too. As have others. But despite them disproving it, the belief persists. It’s important to self-conception. Putin’s Russia thought that too, and was badly wrong, but got rescued by US voters throwing away liberal democracy instead.

This should go without saying, but none of this is about efficiency; it’s about breaking the wills of anyone earnest enough to view public service as a worthy calling and, by extension, to undercut the draw of service for a generation.

When the Space Force gets told to cut 40%

I'm sure I speak for many of us when I say fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuiuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck

In the last few hours, I have learned: 1) that DoD wants to massively cut budgets 2) that an (extended) family member is dying 3) that HR wants to talk to me 1v1 tomorrow Guys, it's too much.

If Joe Biden said this, the entire Republican Party would be yelling about Munich/1938/appeasement, & it would prompt nonstop front page headlines about whether he was mentally unfit to be president.

So are we keeping a list now?

Oh no!

Long overdue. Welcome home #LeonardPeltier! www.startribune.com/its-a-histor...
