I feel like I'm just not made for short-form social media anymore. I want exclusively long-form essays and private correspondence.

Great album

I've been feeling the urge to draw more lately. Probably craving focus.

Safe (1995) is honestly one of the greatest movies ever made

At my old institution we used to start classes on like January 14th, because we were civilized

I logged on here and had 15 notifications because one person followed me and liked a lot of my posts. How do large accounts deal with this??

Natalie Wood and Tab Hunter during a break from filming The Girl He Left Behind (1956)

I have a big urge to reread Plato's Phaedrus. I read it in high school. It was the first Platonic dialogue I really enjoyed. Though that makes me a bit biased, I think it contains in nuce all that is significant in Plato.

It's okay, the Dems can still run Jimmy Carter in 2028

Fuck Nassim Nicholas Taleb (born 1960) #philosophy

Satisfied my Ploughman’s lunch craving

I can't explain why but this sounds like an A. G. Cook song to me.

When I was a kid my dad showed me Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman and I still regularly think of this final line of the first episode. The delivery, the orchestra swell, it's perfect.

When teaching post-structuralism to undergrads, profs will often use the example of 'looking up a word in a dictionary only to find other words' to get at the "excess of signifier" idea. Does anyone know where this example comes from?

I spent this morning writing about Guattari and asignifying semiotics. He's a terrible writer, just awful to read, but when you translate what he's saying into normal human language it's actually pretty interesting.

Hot Frosty is about being-towards-death

We have not yet begun to understand Plato

I love when Continental philosophers are like “we have not yet begun to understand [philosopher].” We do not yet understand Spinoza. We do not yet understand Nietzsche. No idea what it means but it gets me going.

Wait, what?

Does Dasein fuck?

I spend this morning writing about my frenemy Roland Barthes
