🚨BREAKING. From a program officer at the National Science Foundation, a list of keywords that can cause a grant to be pulled. I will be sharing screenshots of these keywords along with a decision tree. Please share widely. This is a crisis for academic freedom & science.

'We have not thought enough about that right wing thrill, that sense of exhilaration, that people get....they want to be free to hate, free to be irrational.'

This morning I taught on the history of AIDS and its 'birth certificate' in the 1981 Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report. This week the #MMWR has not been published for the first time since 1952. Unhinged executive order vandalism with terrifying implications for trust in epidemiological info.

Delighted to share our seminar programme for Spring 2025! #STS

Cultural Histories of the Black Death. Brilliant thread on what sounds like a fantastic lecture!

The most formative film I have ever watched. It was voluntary viewing in a seminar on the history of medicine in the third Reich. Gerhard Baader, the professor, put it on Saturday early am, all students who came stayed for the entire 9.5 hours. It is not a 'documentary' about the Shoah...

The Institut Pasteur has decided to leave X (formerly Twitter) to join BlueSky! 🦋 The Institut Pasteur made this decision due to several serious issues observed on the X platform since its acquisition. Join us here to continue advocating for science. www.pasteur.fr/en/home/pres...

The Semmelweis gambit. Read for bad history takes to deliver poor justification for crap science, stay for insane AIDS / COVID analogies. Thank you @gorskon.bsky.social , really enjoyed this! Will go straight into the #histmed teaching folder

Welcome to @bsky.app !

Call for Papers for the biannual conference organized by the European Association for the History of Medicine and Health in Berlin August 26-29, 2025. Submission is now open! #histmed hi.converia.de/frontend/ind...

And a warm welcome to the excellent Socialist Medicine project to @bsky.app Folks in #histSci #histMed, follow @socmederc.bsky.social, also for a fantastic hybrid seminar series in 2025.

Turns out our University isn't really in financial distress. Trust your union to crunch the numbers when the vice chancellor is just gesturing at opaque forecasts and models. #UCU www.ucuedinburgh.org.uk/blog/2eppzf7...

Hello #STS #metascience #openscience at #bluesky. We have a starter pack with staff, students (past and present) that are part of the STIS community in Edinburgh. It's of course incomplete and boundaries will be porous. Leave a note below if you like to be added. go.bsky.app/N1RREbY

We made another thing! Here is a pretty great 'HPS Starter Pack' so you too can follow all the awesome history, philosophy and social studies of science (and #metasci #histSTM #philsci #philsky #hps #histsci 🧪) accounts on Bluesky. Please share widely #academicsky :)

Looking forward to speaking about 'well-stirred' societies and the politics of epidemic modelling next week on Thursday in Berlin. Thanks to the fabulous Socialist Medicine project for the invite. Seminar is fully hybrid ⬇️ socialistmedicine.com/october-24-l...

Reposting this 2-year postdoc announcement, with clarification that visa sponsorship may be available if needed - so not limited to Australians and Kiwis. Looking for medical anthropologists, STSers, or the like, to work with me and @sonjavw.bsky.social #anthro #STS #histSTM

What a brilliant piece of writing (reviewing): @bykatewomersley.bsky.social on Cat Bohannon's new book, which is "plumbing the depths of what’s different – for better and for worse – about the female body" without falling for naive sex essentialism. www.theguardian.com/books/2023/o...

Paul Feyerabend, not a fan of conferences. From a 1974 letter written to Imre Lakatos (in "For and Against Method") 🧪

The notebooks of the 19th-century geologist and environmental scientist Charles Lyell are being digitised by Edinburgh University! You can access them here: www.ed.ac.uk/information-... #histsci

This fantastic collection of bibliographic essays is not just a narrative guide to scholarship about past epidemics but a collective reckoning with the limitations of #histmed #histsci in the face of a pandemic. All #openaccess and highly recommended. www.journals.uchicago.edu/toc/isis/202...

So without hashtags, how would go Bout to do conference posts on blusky? Asking for #EAHMH23

Well, hello bluesky! This seems nice. Now, how do I find all the STS, histmed and histsci folks? And also everyone epidemics and epidemiology?
