Chef’s kiss. www.theuncomfortable.com

Installing an aftermarket stereo in a 1995 Mazda Miata. I spent most of Saturday iterating on designing in FreeCAD & 3D printing. I got something that will do the job by the end of the day. Need a cubby to go beneath it — fortunately there are existing STL files that I can try. #3dprinting #miata

After 3 or 4 day's work, I finished up the "panelling" (left) on the studio-scale space clipper from the movie, "2001: A Space Odyssey". Now I am putting white over the top to take it down (right). I'll probably take it down even more than it appears in the photo. I prefer subtlety. #scifimodels

Panelling the studio-scale (and balsa construction) Orion space clipper from "2001: A Space Odyssey" is wrapping up. Some touch up tomorrow and then perhaps the next day I will begin to apply thin coats of white overtop to take it back to a *generally* white space ship. So tedious. #scifimodels

Welded the four subwoofer pieces together. (Ignore the wild color scheme — using whatever cheap filament is on hand.) Some PNIG (Plastic, Non-Inert Gas 😉) welding on the inside joints using a cheap soldering iron & filament (see joint through hole). Works pretty well. #3dprinting #bambulabs #hifi

I'm trying to recreate a subwoofer that I designed & built years back. Using FreeCAD this time & 3D printing. In the early, experimental stage. Using a spool of regret-filament to make a half-scale model, & a full-size but quartered model. Print-bed size limitations… #hifi #3dprinting #bambulabs

Created vector-based decals for the studio-scale "2001" space clipper I am building. I sent them off to have a sheet of water-slide decals made ($50, ouch). Affinity Designer is my drawing program of choice. No Adobe -rental crap, just download/buy the app and go. #scifimodels #affinity #adobesux

Huge fan of The Muffs — hard to believe Kim Shattuck died over 5 years ago. The most incredible thing to come since her death were two tribute video compilations by Japanese bands. If you're a fan, these are sometimes hilarious, always amazing. #1: youtu.be/5GiL7FJIHRQ #MusicSky #MusicChallenge

A few people have asked how the Cone Clock I made works (see post history). It's quite simple. The mechanism is attached via its "hour barrel". It is imbalanced — the battery weighing down one end, so that part of the mechanism is hanging down while the clock/cone rotate about it. #3dprinting

No big deal, but I was pleased I was able to host an LLM locally on a 16 GB Raspberry Pi 5 with a Web UI frontend so that I can connect to it from any machine/browser in my home. Yeah, slow as balls. It will interesting to try to find a model more appropriate for the slow Pi. #llm #localllm

Painting the studio-scale balsa ship from "2001" is not something I enjoy (or am very good at). Masking tape + air brush — & still learning. It will get a light white coat when I'm done painting the panels. It'll make them less obvious. Looking less like the balsa "plane" that it is. #scifimodels
