Unhinged economic policy.

Over the next decade, Pathways Alliance companies are planning to spend more than $50 billion developing and exploring for new oil and gas fields. Yet they want taxpayers to pay $16 billion for their greenwashing carbon capture plans www.nationalobserver.com/2025/03/10/n...

There are perennial warnings that America is coming for Canada's freshwater and 99 times out of 100 you can ignore it as alarmism not grounded in fact. This is what "coming for our water" would look like in reality, and not just alarmism. www.nytimes.com/2025/03/07/w...

Convenient timing right after the last provincial election, called 16 months early.

NEW: Supreme Court of Canada strikes down Ontario’s campaign spending limit that bound 3rd parties for up to 12 months before a fixed-term election date. The 5-4 decision neutralizes a provision in law Premier Ford hurriedly passed before the 2022 election.

One thing I didn't write but should have: an Uber exec on the task force that sees bike lanes a problem. Those lanes keep their Uber Eats delivery people safe. By coming out against lanes as congestion causes they are really saying they don't care about the safety of their delivery people.

New from me! The success of the federal programs that funded co-op housing back in the ‘70s is undeniable. In the midst of an affordable housing supply shortage, why hasn’t Canada brought these programs back?

Attention policy makers: As a business owner in Canada, I could take advantage of pretty good tax breaks if I had a car. But I don’t want a car and choose to live where I don’t need one. That’s better for everyone. But there are no tax breaks connected to my public transit pass. That’s bad policy.

“In Finland, the number of homeless people has fallen sharply. Those affected receive a small apartment & counselling with no preconditions. 4 out of 5 people affected make their way back into a stable life. And all this is CHEAPER than accepting homelessness.”

When I was first diagnosed with type 2 diabetes my nurse practitioner and I talked about this. She was willing to medically suspend my license just in case of sudden drops\spikes in my blood sugar. My license was set to expire and I just didn't renew instead choosing car-free lifestyle.

Been seeing social media posts promoting oil and gas, purporting to be from nonprofits? Turns out the organizations don't exist and they all come from Poilievre's PR firm. Niagara area targeted for turning down a gas plan. Long but worthwhile www.nationalobserver.com/2025/02/24/i...

A carbon capture company in the UK which had received generous government funding has just laid off all of its staff CCS has a clear track record of expensive failure after expensive failure. It is not a viable solution. www.yorkshirepost.co.uk/business/c-c...

ICYMI: The RCMP commish ordered the force to issue a formal apology to Jerome Turner and I for violating our press freedom rights during a 2020 raid on Wet’suwet’en territory. It’s the result of a scathing oversight report that has the RCMP promising changes. ricochet.media/labour/media...

don’t forget that having everyone drive is much more profitable than having everyone walk, bike, or take transit

A real ah-ha, of course moment when @volts.wtf mentioned the obvious business case for self-driving cars is companies being able to sell you more and more intrusive ads in one of the last blocks of time where people's attention is elsewhere www.volts.wtf/p/chris-haye...
