Lovely morning for a walk up Lisnabreeny🚶🐕

There’s an Urdu name for a “Jack of all trades” that translates to “every talent Lord.” A Korean version is “eight direction beauty.” But my favourite name for someone who tries their hand at lots of different things is the Lithuanian Barbė devyndarbė. It means “Barbie nine jobs”

Economy Minister @caoimhearchibald.bsky.social has welcomed the Space Scoping Study, commissioned by Matrix NI. It identifies NI as a key player in the rapidly expanding global space economy & outlines a roadmap for enhancing the north’s role in the sector. www.economy-ni.gov.uk/news/report-...

A productive workshop with Chris Hayward (Policy Chair at the City of London Corporation) exploring Regulatory Technologies was recently held at UU (Magee). The North West region’s ambitions for a RegTech 'Super Cluster' and findings of the latest report by Matrix on RegTech was discussed. #RegTech

Women make up only 35% of STEM graduates worldwide. UNESCO encourages more women and girls to get involved in science education. On #WomenInScience Day, let's amplify their voices! www.unesco.org/en/days/wome...

Economy Minister @caoimhearchibald.bsky.social has welcomed a landmark report by Matrix, the NI Science Industry Panel, into the RegTech sector. The report highlights the significant opportunities available for local companies in the sector. ➡️Read more: economy-ni.gov.uk/news/landmar...

That's weird - our #ShareTheShore petition had >500 signatures and now it's down to 51... Well, grateful if you could re-post and sign and see if we can get Northern Ireland Water to do the decent thing and let neighbours enjoy their natural heritage. Thanks! my.actnowni.org/petitions/sh...

This has been a good day. Hearing of hope and ambitions even where it means losing a good colleague to new challenges that match their skills, of good people making things happen and this evening hearing the laughter in our house as a new generation game and make friendships. G'night all

was mostly keeping it together until I read Kyle MacLachlan's tribute to David Lynch

Explore Carrickabraghy Castle on the Isle of Doagh in Inishowen, Donegal! Perched on the rugged coastline, this historic fortress offers stunning views of the Atlantic and a glimpse into Donegal's rich past. www.inishview.com/activity/car... #donegal #wildatlanticway #visitdonegal #ireland

Oh, christ. I'm now emotionally invested in a stranger's ear. Thread. You will be too.

I've run the #BigGardenBirdwatch in school for the past couple of years. It's a brilliant opportunity to discuss the glorious biodiversity of British birds & how we can best protect it. A wonderful learning experience with tangible benefits to #CitizenScience. Highly recommend! 🐦🕊️🦉🐦‍⬛🦆🦅

Heartily recommended. A great example of what joined-up thinking and persistence can do for biodiversity.

Someone got a new coat for Christmas

It’s new year. You want to change something. I’ve got something: turn off all phone notifications that aren’t messages to you personally (texts, emails etc). You don’t need your phone to beep if someone interacts with a post or follows you or if a news outlet writes a headline. You won’t miss them.

“It was a big surprise.” The foundations of a courtyard and surrounding buildings have been unearthed by chance on the grounds of a country house estate in Co Down.

A good way to start the New Year

A message for going into 2025. #illustration #procreateartist #newyear #art

Surely he should be a Lord!

Cars should be taxed on weight to end consumer confusion over how to pick the greenest models, according to a leading automotive expert. In 2001 the average weight of a car in the European Union was approximately 1,328kg. By 2020 it had jumped to 1,457kg. www.thetimes.com/article/58e5...

A bold move by Apple here, their first attempt to do something, anything, to promote the dozens of quite good TV shows they've made at a cost of twenty billion dollars.

Usually really like the Guardian's TV reviews but to me this is v poor ragebait - each one is written like "you know that thing you liked? It was bad actually", with little justification at each turn (especially when many of these shows got good reviews in the Guardian when they first came out!)

The most important plot for understanding UK politics & economics now - the collapse in productivity growth since the mid-2000s. Nothing that governments of last 15 years have done has made a material difference, & if we continue doing the same things we'll get the same result.
