It’s raining and gray here, but this perked me up a bit. www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/202...

The battle of our day is no longer about Democrats versus Republicans or left versus right. The choice right now is democracy or dictatorship. And we're sliding faster than I ever thought possible into the latter. Everyone must choose which side they’re on. Now.

For every $1 the IRS spends auditing the top 1%, it can collect $13. For every $1 the IRS spends auditing the top 0.1%, it can collect $26. Laying off 7,000 IRS employees (during tax season) isn't about efficiency. It's about making it easier for the rich to evade taxes.

“the United States is not a startup. The federal government exists to do all of the things that are definitionally not profitable, that serve the public good rather than protect investor profits. (The vast majority of startups also fail, something the United States cannot afford to do.)”

Here’s to NASA! (And Jupiter😊).

Read carefully and do as you’re told😌. (The juxtaposition was, I’m sure, unintentional, but it tickled my funny bone when I saw it. In fact, dressing rooms in this particular store are unisex, but I’m old enough to remember when there was no such thing.)

Knowledge is power…

What he looks like to me is seriously stoned. Makes me wonder.

A male pileated woodpecker chipping away at the base of a dead tree in the back of my property. I love the wood chip flying away and how his tongue is probing for insects. #birds

The big blotches are obviously birds, but so are the little blotches. Probably juncos or chickadees. I wasn’t sure, so I watched them long enough to see some little ones fly.

Arrest him

Good: CDC’s outbreak publication (MMWR) is now up and running after the first pause in over 70 years Bad: Todays publication is about fires, and not the missing bird flu or mpox studies we knew were up for publication. Of which have safety implications for veterinarians and people with house cats …

Saw someone fulminating about the magat in chief saying something about two-dollar plane tickets, but I figured it had to be satire, right? But nope. Apparently he was attacking CA’s high-speed rail plan. Here it is: youtu.be/YOL4CA2ZA8Y

From a few weeks back, when our river was a bit flooded.

Exactly. I can't assess LLMs on, say, coding; the output looks fine to me, I dunno. But the more I know about an area, the more painful the output is to read, stretching from "eh that's not quite right" to "absolutely not, wtf." And then I see others who know areas like coding say the same.

This is literally my first attempt at posting here. I’m just beginning to learn the system. Anyway. This is a tree-critter I see from my recliner. I keep expecting the tree to grow out of it, but it’s been months, and it’s still there.

Psyche!
