Mahmoud Khalil's attorney was not allowed to bring her laptop into his most recent hearing. Louisiana immigration Judge Jamee Comans deferred to private prison company GEO Group on the issue - even though DOJ policy says attorneys are allowed to have electronics in court

⚠️ Human Rights Watch: “The Israeli government’s plan to demolish what remains of Gaza’s civilian infrastructure and concentrate the Palestinian population into a tiny area would amount to an abhorrent escalation of its ongoing crimes against humanity, ethnic cleansing, and acts of genocide”

this is not an exaggeration

the thing is, ‘concern’ about immigration is directly proportional to how much media coverage is focused on immigration, so even assuming Labour reduce the absolute numbers by 2030, the only way that it will make voters happy is if the press decide it should

I hear Labour are furious about the Pride ban. Good morning everybody!

[stares in welsh speaker]

This is some far-right, great replacement stuff being normalized because of Starmer. Incredibly dangerous.

100% of the people who treated me in hospital were born outside the UK. What's Jenrick's point here, other than bald racism?

The absolute annihilation of ICE is a nonnegotiable going forward. Root and branch.

Let's just check the social psychosis temperature really quick... jesus christ that's not good

Starmer's Britain. Not even subtle.

Donald Trump got elected after spending his campaign rambling about immigrants eating dogs and the cock sizes of golfers. Stop trying to map the mind of the average voter.

If there was one thing I kept screaming during the 2020 uprising it was that exploding protest movements always draw a massive influx of grifters and predators. But the second thing I kept screaming it was that we can very quickly completely outnumber the cops. Portland has like 800 cops.

Just out! Our peer-reviewed critique of the Cass Review has been published by BMC Medical Research Methodology. Please read and share. We show that the Cass Review is fatally flawed and should not be the basis for policy or practice in transgender healthcare. link.springer.com/article/10.1...

Last fall Niall Ferguson chastised me on Xitter for suggesting Trump could turn fascist, asserting, "fascism was all about state control of the economy and militarisation in preparation for war, pretty much the opposite of Trump's philosophy." Just thinking about that for no reason whatsoever.

"Masked security forces captured an opposition leader in the coastal province of New Jersey as regime officials continue their months-long crack-down against pro-democracy elements in the embattled United States. The arrest comes as the regime issued calls for summary detentions without trial."

She’s out!! They have released Ozturk from ICE custody!

So, Peru’s Constitution recognises the people’s right to insurgency (ie stop complying with laws) when a government usurps democracy by doing things it is not allowed. I really like that aspect of Peru’s constitutional law and I’m sharing this for no reason at all

Take a step back here, they've spent the past 4 years hyping themselves up about the Insurrection Act. Shoot a few protestors, suspend habeus corpus, then you can jail your enemies & declare a 1000 year reich. They think it's an instant I-win button when it's the thing that presages their downfall.

inshallah they are dismantled before my birthday, im so goddamn sick and tired of seeing them do all this gestapo shit

The Suspension Clause: 1) Doesn't allow the President to unilaterally suspend habeas, especially when Congress is in session; 2) Applies only to cases of invasion or rebellion (this is quite clearly neither); and 3) *Even then,* applies only "when the public safety may require it." (It doesn't.)

Pope Leo XIV is expected to have a poor initial reception, but will become much more popular when he rebrands as Leo XIV A Pontiff Reborn.

Footage of Trump-Vance administration agents arresting Newark Mayor Ras Baraka (Baraka is seen at the beginning in a brown coat and black cap)

Libraries will be an alternative to libgen when they start doing exactly what libgen does, which is to say when they start to provide a vast library of books, on demand, to everyone that asks, without arbitrary limits or DRM. Until that is the case, this analogy is, as Zoe says, obviously absurd.

The claim that libraries are an alternative to libgen is ridiculous. Almost all libraries don't have expensive academic books. Libgen is the university library of the world, open to everyone regardless of wealth, location, or academic credentials.

The funniest thing Prevost could have done would be to name himself Francis II

I  know your goal is to try to make life as hard as possible for immigrants.

i will never get past this. the collapse of the global trade system because one guy does not understand what a trade deficit is.

consider, they picked whichever Pope would piss off Vance the most

new pope! *crowd goes wild* American pope! *crowd boos* woke for an American! *crowd goes wild* bad on protecting abusive priests! *crowd boos* hates JD Vance! *crowd goes wild*

we're gonna keep appointing new, increasingly more vance-hostile popes until he converts back to protestantism
