Peer nations also all have universal healthcare so that people don't leave the hospital with outrageous bills and medical debts after giving birth. If you want to support families, demand universal healthcare and actual public health systems. "Baby bonuses" are just distraction.

RFK Jr is not just ending food safety checks but also destroying the public health reporting and tracking systems to detect when contaminated food is making us sick. We’ll now pay corporations for the privilege of eating shit and not know what’s happening when it kills us.

The trouble is that shouting “fascism” while just supporting the failed status quo of the DNC that makes fascism attractive to so many people does not constitute an actual anti-fascist politics. That doesn’t characterize Victor, but it does several of the most prominent commentators in this scene.

Paul Kagame remains Paul Kagame.

“Rwanda's primary motivation for accepting Mr. Amen and subsequent Third Country Nationals is to improve U.S. relations and show it can advance the America First agenda.”

Predicting Trump and fascism is not the same thing as offering a viable political vision for preventing their rise. Shouting “fascism” while just supporting the failed status quo of the DNC that makes fascism attractive to so many people does not constitute an actual anti-fascist politics.

Under NIH rules released this week, researchers who support a boycott of Israel will have their funding terminated. How is the US medical establishment’s support for genocide abroad related to its collaboration with fascism at home, you ask? I wrote about it here. www.thenation.com/article/soci...

Recognizing the risk of impending fascism is very different from having a vision for an effective political means to avert it. Snyder and several others were good at the former but profoundly lacking when it came to the latter.

Many people beyond Snyder saw fascism coming. Many of them also correctly believed that to avert it would require more than just repeatedly shouting “fascism” on MSNBC while doubling down on support for genocide and the failed neoliberal status quo of the Democratic Party establishment.

Anybody who isn’t influenced by anger at a blatantly corrupt US healthcare industry is profoundly biased against reality and should be barred from involvement in the trial.

How does anyone with any integrity or even just basic self-respect stand next to this guy while he spouts his eugenicist idiocy? Malicious fools and tools––all of them.

Editor kindly informs us that writer did not actually mean what he wrote.

We're 3 months in and I am sorry to say that all of our financial situations will get worse before they improve. I'll bet that the majority of the 5 million people who might be having their wages garnished re: student debt don't even know this is coming.

What is anti-fascist public health? We outline it here. academic.oup.com/healthaffair...

Cook County Jail Restrained People In Chairs 874 Times — And Never Reported It To The State. Good story @gracehauck.bsky.social blockclubchicago.org/2025/04/22/c...

My favorite MAGA argument right now is, "If we give everyone due process, we'll never be able to deport 12 million people." True! Also true: If we give everyone due process, we'll never be able to kill all left-handed people. If your plan requires suspension of due process, your plan is bad!

I've not known a single mentor in US medicine who would've encouraged me to go against editors' intentions by making public this leaked letter from Trump's fascist DOJ threatening journals. Normalize refusing compliance, going public about fascist tactics, and trying to organize against them.

If the Trump regime is going to––as it announced today––seize people's wages if they are in default because they can't afford to make payments on their student loans, it'd sure be nice if we normalized making it an option for employees to receive their wages in cash.

The Nazis also targeted queer people for withdrawal of basic care and eventual extermination. www.motherjones.com/politics/202...

The anti-psychiatry critics who have publicly praised RFK Jr and Jay Bhattacharya need to take stock of what they're doing and what they've abetted. This is just straight cruelty and eugenics. Recognition of a failed status quo is not a justification for supporting this.

SCOOP — The US sent Iraqi refugee Omar Ameen to Rwanda via new diplomatic relationship in which they've agreed to act as a "third country" for deportees unable to be safely returned to their country of origin, per cables reviewed by me. This is first reported instance. Cable indicates more to come.

Why are so many Americans violently transphobic? That some people dare to invent their own way of living rather than simply accept biology and social norms as destiny is infuriating to those who lack the courage to do the same. People who enforce unfreedom upon themselves hate the freedom of others.

The Trump regime has announced a new policy for addressing homelessness, child hunger, poverty, and healthcare exclusion: multiply all of them as quickly as possible and see how many poor people they can kill off.

Why are so few in the US medical establishment dissenting against medical fascism (www.thenation.com/article/soci...)? Because, as @carlelliott.bsky.social explains, the medical profession has long demanded automatic obedience while punishing those who resist. www.nytimes.com/2024/05/07/o...

History suggests that matters will get considerably worse––and that the US medical profession will be inclined to go along with the Trump regime's demands unless, unlike in the past, we immediately organize principled, forceful opposition to rising medical fascism. www.thenation.com/article/soci...

Really outstanding read on the medical system's complicity in the systems of oppression around us, a practice that isn't new and is, if anything, getting worse.

In 2020, @timothysnyder.bsky.social called the corrupt US medical system "an invitation to tyranny." In 2025, the medical establishment is a key player in enabling Trump's regime. I wrote about the rise of medical American fascism for @thenation.com this week. www.thenation.com/article/soci...

How are the US medical establishment's support for genocide in Gaza and its ready cooperation with the Trump regime related? I wrote a bit about it for The Nation this week. www.thenation.com/article/soci...

I feel like we need to keep saying this because it’s so insane: This is a legal U.S. resident who has been detained for over a month now for his political opinions.

The US medical profession’s long history of complicity with state violence has prepared it for compliance with Trump’s authoritarian orders. www.thenation.com/article/soci...

Healthcare is an essential site of control and coercion for fascist regimes. The US medical field––shaped by decades of corruption and automatic obedience to professional authority that commands us to sacrifice people for profit––is primed to go along with it. www.thenation.com/article/soci...

"We are already seeing the groundwork being laid for doctors to function as agents of state control rather than as providers of care." In @thenation.com today on the rise of American medical fascism and the sordid legacy that's paved the way for it today. www.thenation.com/article/soci...

On Google Maps, I see only one hospital in Marshall, MN: Avera Marshall Regional Medical Center.

Should one be reassured that Trump’s fascist goons—like Hegseth—are utterly incompetent buffoons or all the more alarmed for it?

Andrew Cuomo is the only one who answered the Trump question here by promising to be an accomodationist to Trump. New Yorkers, keep him off your ballot. www.nytimes.com/interactive/...

The Vatican will now decide whether it repeats its past collaboration with genocide and fascism or if it will choose a new leader who will, like Francis, forcefully oppose them.

Not without faults, but Pope Francis died well––struggling to the very end to do what he could to stop a genocide perpetrated by the US and Israel with European support and opposing the demonization and violation of immigrants by Euro-American white supremacists.

Are you an editor with interest in a 1300-word OpEd on Israel’s now-admitted execution of 15 emergency health workers that puts this massacre—and lies about it—into context by drawing from peer-reviewed evidence of Israeli targeting of hospitals and health workers over 18 months?
