The Department of Sociology and Anthropology at Spelman has a new LinkedIn! We are trying to connect with current students and alumni. If you have any news to share (i.e. study abroad, internships, jobs, grad school acceptance or completion, etc.), please let us know!

Our sister scribes Sanctuary panel at the Zora Neale Hurston Summit was a hit! With Nadia Alexis, Candace Bacchus, and Kirsten Ivey-Colson. Thanks to Lori Tharps for bringing us together & Thanks to Joyce E. Davis for taking pics & video. @enjoyceinglife.bsky.social @loriltharps.bsky.social

One of my 2025 writing goals was to do a writers' residency. I'm so excited that I will be doing a Creative Sabbatical at the Ragdale Foundation in Lake Forest, Illinois. It's short: Feb 18-21, but honestly, that's perfect for me right now! #RWCPromoChallenge #writing Photo credit: lnkd.in/gUVri6xY

I just finished this book today and I feel like I need a discussion group! So good! #SkyFullofElephants

Throwback. November 2013. This was either at NWSA or AAA when I held my first book in my hands for the first time. When the writing gets hard sometimes, I remind myself that I have been here before and pushed through. #RWCPromoChallenge #writing

This is one of my writing inspiration quotes for 2025. I'm currently reading Black Feminist Writing (Evans) How to Live Free in a Dangerous World (Lawson), and Belonging: A Daughter's Search for Identity through Loss and Love. Fellow writers, what are you reading? #rwcpromochallenge #writing

ZNH: “You take up the pen when you are told, and write what is commanded. There is no agony like bearing an untold story inside you.” Can’t wait to present at the Zora Summit in 2 weeks! #rwcpromochallenge #writing

Throwback: 19 year old me on my 1st international solo trip. I went to Caracas, Venezuela and visited the coastal towns of Puerto Colombia and Choriní. This is one of the experiences I’m writing about in my memoir, Take Flight: A Memoir on Race, Identity and Travel. #rwcpromochallenge #writinglife

Reflecting on my writing in 2024: I track my writing time in a spreadsheet. In 2024 I wrote a total of 11,900 minutes (198 hours), which breaks down to 3.8 hours per week. I made a lot of progress on my 2 book projects. I participated in 32 co-writing sessions in The Sanctuary #rwcpromochallenge

It’s been just over a year since I joined The Sanctuary, a virtual Writing community for BIPOC students women created by Lori Tharps. Best decision ever. I’m fully stepping into my identity as a WRITER. #RWCPromoChallenge
